Identification and quantitation of tocopherols, carotenoids and triglycerides in edible Pistacia lentiscus oil from Tunisia

International audience; The fruits of Pistacia lentiscus are a source of a fixed oil used in some forested areas for culinary purposes and in traditional medicines. The aim of this study was to evaluate the levels of tocopherols, carotenoids and triglycerides in this oil using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The results demonstrated the presence of two vitamin E isomers; α- and γ-tocopherols, at respective concentrations of 119 mg and 23 mg per kg of oil. β-carotene, lutein and zeaxanthin were the principal carotenoid molecules identified. β-carotene was the main molecule present, with a level of 6.13 mg/kg oil. Recent studies by Bang and Dyerberg (1) have stimulated interest in the metabolism of omega-3 fatty acids and have suggested a link between the ingestion of these fatty acids in a diet and the low death rate from athersclerotic disease in Eskimos. Distribution of Δ5-olefinic acids in the triacylglycerols fromPinus koraiensisandPinus pinasterseed oils

Purified triacylglycerols (TAG) fromPinus koraiensis andP. pinaster seed oils, which are interesting and commercially available sources of Δ5-olefinic acids (i.e.,cis-5,cis-9,cis-12 18:3 andcis-5,cis-11,cis-14 20:3 acids) were fractionated by reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography, and each fraction was examined by capillary gas-liquid chromatography for its fatty acid composition. A structure could be assigned to more than 92% of TAG from both oils. In both instances, ca. 48% of the TAG were shown to contain at least one δ5-olefinic acid. PubMed, Embase and Cochrane Library databases were carefully and thoroughly retrieved until October 2021. Menopause modulates the circulating metabolome: evidence from a prospective cohort study

Abstract Aims We studied the changes in the circulating metabolome and their relation to the menopausal hormonal shift in 17β-oestradiol and follicle-stimulating hormone levels among women transitioning from perimenopause to early postmenopause. Methods and results We analysed longitudinal data from 218 Finnish women, 35 of whom started menopausal hormone therapy during the study. Biocatalyzed acidolysis of soybean oil triacylglycerols to increase oleic acid content

Lipase catalyzed acidolysis of triacylglycerols (TAG) of soybean oil with oleic acid in organic solvent was studied; immobilized lipase from Rhizomucor miehei was used and the effects of reaction time, incubation temperature and enzyme load on TAG total and positional fatty acid (FA) percentage compositions were investigated. The results show that oleic acid incorporation was high after 24 and 48 h, while after 72 h a lower level of oleic acid in TAG was observed.
