A simulation and experimental study of electrochemical pH control at gold interdigitated electrode arrays

2021

Abstract In electroanalysis, solution pH is a critical parameter that often needs to be tailored and controlled for the detection of particular analytes. This is most commonly performed by the addition of chemicals, such as strong acids or bases. Electrochemical in-situ pH control offers the possibility for the local adjustment of pH at the point of detection, without the need for additional reagents. Finite element analysis (FEA) simulations have been performed on interdigitated electrodes, to guide experimental design in relation to both electroanalysis and in-situ control of solution pH. No previous model exists that describes the generation of protons at an interdigitated electrode arra…

Evaluation of adsorption ability of Cyclodextrin-Calixarene Nanosponges towards Pb2+ ion in aqueous solution

2021

Abstract Different cyclodextrin-calixarene nanosponges (CyCaNSs) have been characterized by means of FFC-NMR relaxometry, and used as sorbents to remove Pb2+ ions from aqueous solutions. Considering that the removal treatments may involve polluted waters with different characteristics, the adsorption experiments were performed on solutions without and with the addition of background salts, under different operational conditions. The adsorption abilities and affinities of the nanosponges towards Pb2+ ions were investigated by measuring the metal ion concentration by means of Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and Differential Pulse Anodic Stripping Voltammetry (DP-ASV…

The STATe of the Neuron Leads to Synaptic Stripping

2018

In a recent issue of Cell, Di Liberto et al. (2018) elucidate the mechanisms involved in synaptic stripping during viral infection. Infected neurons orchestrate their own synaptic loss downstream of IFNγ signaling, ultimately attracting phagocytic monocytes into the CNS through CCL2 production.

Is the stripping technique a tissue-sparing procedure in large simple ovariancysts in children?

2008

Abstract Background Stripping of the cystic wall is performed by gynecologists to treat large ovarian cysts. Information in the pediatric population is poor. We prospectively evaluated the pathologic specimens of large ovarian cyst to determine whether the stripping technique is a tissue-sparing procedure even in this age. Methods We evaluated 5 patients. Samples were taken from the intermediate part of the cystic wall and from the layer covering the cyst during excision. The presence of ovarian tissue adjacent to the cyst wall, and the morphological features of the surrounding tissue were both evaluated. Pelvic ultrasound follow-up was also performed. Results Patients' mean age was 4.5 yea…

Charge-state dynamics of 1.4- and 11-MeV/u uranium ions penetrating H2 and He gas targets

2018

Abstract Theoretical description and interpretation are presented of the recent experimental data on stripping of fast 238U ions, penetrating H2 and He gaseous targets: obtained in GSI, Darmstadt, Germany at 1.4 MeV/u with a H2 stripper, and in RIKEN, Saitama, Japan at 11 MeV/u with H2 and He strippers. Electron-loss and capture cross sections for uranium ions, interacting with H2 and He targets are calculated and used as input data in the BREIT code to obtain dynamic characteristics of uranium-ion beams: non-equilibrium and equilibrium charge-state fractions, mean and equilibrium charges, and equilibrium thicknesses. Special attention is paid for the calculation of the dynamic characterist…

The beta-decay of95Rb and97Rb

1983

Theβ-decay of 377 ms95Rb and 168ms97Rb has been thoroughly investigated by means ofγ-ray, conversion electron andβ-delayed neutron spectroscopy. More than 97% of theβ-decay to particle-bound states has been placed in level schemes of95Sr and97Sr. High-resolution neutron spectroscopic studies have allowed to extend the knowledge of the excitation spectra up to 9 MeV, respectively 10 MeV. The density of neutron-unbound levels in95Sr and97Sr has been derived from peak stripping analyses of the neutron spectra. Beta-strength functions (S β(E)) have been investigated in detail. They indicate that Gamow-Tellerβ-decay of both precursors is dominated by nuclear structure. The discovered pronounced …

Examination of the influence of transfer channels on the barrier height distribution: Scattering ofNe20onNi58,Ni60, andNi61at near-barrier energies

2016

Background: It was suggested that the shape of the barrier height distribution can be determined not only by strong reaction channels (collective excitations) but also by weak channels such as transfers and/or noncollective excitations.Purpose: The study of the barrier height distributions for the $^{20}\mathrm{Ne}+\phantom{\rule{0.16em}{0ex}}^{58,60,61}\mathrm{Ni}$ systems requires information on transfer cross sections at near-barrier energies. Methods: A measurement of the cross sections for various transfer channels at a backward angle (142 degrees), at a near-barrier energy was performed. Identification of products was based on time-of-flight and $\mathrm{\ensuremath{\Delta}}E\text{\ens…

Study of the Unstable NucleusL10iin Stripping Reactions of the Radioactive ProjectilesB11eandL11i

1995

Reactions of the halo systems Be-11 and Li-11 (at 460 and 280 MeV/nucleon) with a carbon target demonstrate that (n + Li-9) has an (unbound) l = 0 ground state very close to the threshold. The neutron halo of Li-11 has appreciable (1s(1/2))(2) and (0p(1/2))(2) components.

Platinum and rhodium associated with the leaves of Nerium oleander L.; analytical method using voltammetry; assessment of air quality in the Palermo …

2009

Abstract A rapid accumulation of the catalytic active noble metals in the environmental and biological matrices was observed and concern arose about potential environmental and health risks. The development of reliable analytic methods to measure very low Pt and Rh concentrations is required. The main purpose of this work was to develop a reliable method for the determination of Pt and Rh in environmental matrices because of inherent difficulties in using conventional techniques used, in particular, the ICP-OES technique. A direct determination of Pt using ICP-MS, for instance, is problematic, due to interfering signals. In this work, differential pulse voltammetry (DPV/a) and adsorptive st…
