Thermal stability under air of tungsten–titanium diffusion barrier layer between silica and platinum

2014

Abstract The present work investigated the thermal stability of tungsten–titanium diffusion barrier layers intercalated between SiO 2 substrate and platinum thin film. The resulting structures were annealed under air in the temperature range 400–600 °C for annealing times up to 100 h. Chemical and structural characterizations at different stages of the treatment evidenced several phenomena occurring during annealing under air, especially the complete oxidation of the adhesive layer, the diffusion of tungsten oxide through platinum film at particle boundaries as well as the sublimation process of tungsten oxide. The results of film surface chemistry and microstructure were correlated with di…

Comparative study of air and vacuum annealing atmosphere towards Pt/Ti–W/SiO2 stability

2013

Abstract The thermal stability of Pt/Ti–W/SiO2 system was studied after annealing under air or vacuum in the present work. A Ti–W adhesive film (30 at. % Ti) was deposited on a SiO2 substrate followed by a thicker Pt layer. Depositions were performed using DC magnetron sputtering. The whole as-deposited films are metallic with a columnar growth of platinum deposit which totally wets the substrate. Whatever the atmosphere is, annealing at 500 °C for 12 h does not change the platinum state but modifies the morphology of platinum particles, the lateral average size of which increasing from less than 10 nm up to ca. 75 nm. Besides, a noticeable diffusion of metallic tungsten through Pt film is …

Decay pathways of stored metal-cluster anions after collisional activation

1999

Size-selected gold clusters, Open image in new window (n ≤ 21), and tungsten clusters, Open image in new window , and Open image in new window (n = 4 – 8 and 12), stored in a Penning trap have been collisionally activated. Neutral monomer and dimer evaporation are observed in the case of gold. While no fragment products have been observed for tungsten clusters, there is evidence of electron emission from the anions.

Thermal stability and enhanced thermoelectric properties of the tetragonal tungsten bronzes Nb8-xW9+xO47 (0 <x <5)

2017

Thermoelectric materials are believed to play a fundamental role in the energy field over the next years thanks to their ability of directly converting heat into usable electric energy. To increase their integration in the commercial markets, improvements of the efficiencies are needed. At the same time, cheap and non-toxic materials are required along with easily upscalable production cycles. Compounds of the tetragonal tungsten bronze (TTB) series Nb8-xW9+xO47 fulfill all these requirements and are promising materials. Their adaptive structure ensures glass-like values of the thermal conductivity, and the substitution on the cation side allows a controlled manipulation of the electronic p…

Local structure and vibrational dynamics in NiWO4

2001

Abstract Systematic studies of nickel tungstate thin film, amorphous and polycrystalline powders were performed by X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the Ni K and W L1,3 edges, X-ray diffraction and Raman spectroscopy. We found that in spite of the similarity of the local environment around nickel and tungsten ions in all three materials, there is strong difference in the Ni-O and W-O interactions for thin film/amorphous powder and polycrystalline powder. The nickel-oxygen bonding becomes stronger by going from thin film or amorphous powder to polycrystalline tungstate at the expense of the tungsten-oxygen bonding strength. Besides, in thin film and amorphous NiWO4, nickel and tungsten ions h…

Evaluation of surface roughness of enamel after various bonding and clean-up procedures on enamel bonded with three different bonding agents : an in-…

2016

Background The purpose of this study was to analyze and compare the enamel surface roughness before bonding and after debonding, to find correlation between the adhesive remnant index and its effect on enamel surface roughness and to evaluate which clean-up method is most efficient to provide a smoother enamel surface. Material and methods 135 premolars were divided into 3 groups containing 45 premolars in each group. Group I was bonded by using moisture insensitive primer, Group II by using conventional orthodontic adhesive and Group III by using self-etching primer. Each group was divided into 3 sub-groups on the basis of type of clean-up method applied i,e scaling followed by polishing, …

Evidence of hexagonal WO3 structure stabilization on mica substrate

2009

International audience; WO3 nanorods are grown by a simple vapor deposition method on a mica substrate and characterized by Selected Area Electron Diffraction and Energy Dispersive X-rays Spectroscopy. Experimental results show the clear evidence of an unexpected WO3 hexagonal structure as well as an epitaxial growth on the mica substrate. Besides, potassium is evidenced inside the nanorods. It is thus deduced that a metastable WO3 hexagonal phase is stabilized by epitaxy through a tungsten bronze interlayer having same hexagonal structure.

Structural and electrical properties in tungsten/tungsten oxide multilayers

2014

International audience; Tungsten and tungsten oxide periodic nanometric multilayers have been deposited by DC reactive sputtering using the reactive gas pulsing process. Different pulsing periods have been used for each deposition to produce metal-oxide periodic alternations ranging from 3.3 to 71.5 nm. The morphology, crystallinity and chemical composition of these films have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy techniques. The produced multilayers exhibited an amorphous structure and the composition stability of WO3 sub-layers has been pointed out. Moreover, electrical properties have also been studied by the van der Pauw technique…

An on-line mass separator for fission-produced alkali isotopes

1980

Abstract The design of an on-line mass separator installed at the TRIGA reactor in Mainz is described and its performance discussed. A tungsten oven, filled with about 2 g of 235U embedded in graphite, is exposed to a flux of 1.7 × 1011 thermal neutrons (s− cm−2) near the reactor core. After diffusion out of the graphite the fission-produced alkali isotopes are surface-ionized and electromagnetically mass-separated, the resolving power being about 750. Losses during the diffusion out of the target material are discussed. Due to these losses the maximum separator efficiency is about 5%, corresponding to a source strength of about 109 particles s−1 for the most abundant isotopes. The heaviest…

Structural analysis of W3O/WO3 and TiO/TiO2 periodic multilayer thin films sputter deposited by the reactive gas pulsing process

2012

International audience; DC reactive sputtering was used to deposit titanium and tungsten-based metal/oxide periodic nanometric multilayers using pure metallic targets and Ar + O-2 gas mixture as reactive atmosphere. The innovative technique namely, the reactive gas pulsing process allows switching between the metal and oxide to prepare a periodic multilayered structure with various metalloid concentrations and nanometric dimensions. The same pulsing period was used for each deposition to produce metal-oxide periodic alternations close to 10 nm. Structure, crystallinity and chemical composition of these films were systematically investigated by Raman spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and Energ…
