Superresolved imaging based on wavelength multiplexing of projected unknown speckle patterns
2015
We propose a method for resolution enhancement of a diffraction limited optical system based on the capture of a set of low resolution images. These images are obtained after projection of an ensemble of unknown speckle patterns on top of the high resolution object that is to be imaged. Each speckle pattern is generated by the same thin (and unknown) diffuser, but illuminated with a slightly different wavelength. From the ensemble of low resolution images, we obtain a system of equations that can be solved in an iterative manner that enables reconstruction of the high resolution object. As a result, we also achieve the projected high resolution speckle patterns used for the encoding.
Three-dimensional point spread function and generalized amplitude transfer function of near-field flat lenses.
2010
We derive a nonsingular, polarization-dependent, 3D impulse response that provides unambiguously the wave field scattered by a negative-refractive-index layered lens and distributed in its image volume. By means of a 3D Fourier transform, we introduce the generalized amplitude transfer function in order to gain a deep insight into the resolution power of the optical element. In the near-field regime, fine details containing some depth information may be transmitted through the lens. We show that metamaterials with moderate absorption are appropriate for subwavelength resolution keeping a limited degree of depth discrimination.
Optoelectronic morphological image processor.
2009
A morphological optoelectronic image processor based on the threshold decomposition concept is described and demonstrated. Binary slices of a gray-scale input image are optically convolved with a binary structuring element of arbitrary size and shape in a noncoherent convolver. The slices are displayed on a liquid-crystal spatial light modulator of 320 × 264 pixels. The kernels are implemented as modifications of the system impulse response. The processor’s convolution patterns are recorded with a CCD camera and fed into a PC by a frame grabber. Subsequent elementary morphological operations are looped. Examples of processing an input image of 256 × 256 pixels and 16 gray levels with kernel…
Exceeding the resolving imaging power using environmental conditions
2007
We present two approaches that use the environmental conditions in order to exceed the classical Abbe's limit of resolution of an aperture-limited imaging system. At first we use water drops in order to improve the resolving capabilities of an imaging system using a time-multiplexing approach. The limit for the resolution improvement capabilities is equal to the size of the rain drops. The rain drops falling close to the imaged object act as a sparse and random high-resolution mask attached to it. By applying proper image processing, the center of each falling drop is located, and the parameters of the encoding grating are extracted from the captured set of images. The decoding is done digi…
Über Spurenelemente im Wein
1967
Bakterieller pfelsureabbau in deutschen spitzenweinen
1968

Eco-efficiency assessment of wastewater treatment plants using a weighted Russell directional distance model
2016
Abstract Improving the performance of wastewater treatment plants is essential to ensuring their long-term sustainability. Most of the previous studies on this topic have assessed the techno-economic efficiency of wastewater treatment plants and ignored the emission of greenhouse gases. For the first time, the weighted Russell directional distance model was applied to estimate the eco-efficiency of a sample of real wastewater treatment plants. Moreover, this approach allowed an inefficiency score to be obtained for each variable (cost factors, pollutant removal and greenhouse gases) involved in the model. Subsequently, a second stage of analysis was applied to identify factors influencing t…
Measuring the wastewater treatment plants productivity change: Comparison of the Luenberger and Luenberger-Hicks-Moorsteen Productivity Indicators
2019
Abstract It is essential to assess the productivity of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) to improve their economic and technical performance over time. In doing so, reliable indexes should be used to avoid biased conclusions leading to unsuccessful policy and managerial measures. Ratio-based indexes are typically employed, but are infeasible when any of the variables are equal or close to zero. To overcome this limitation, this paper presents the innovative approach of applying and comparing two difference-based productivity indicators, Luenberger (LPI) and Luenberger-Hicks-Moorsteen (LHMPI), to evaluate how productivity changes in a sample of WWTPs. Because the LHMPI is an additively com…
Analysing the efficiency of wastewater treatment plants: The problem of the definition of desirable outputs and its solution
2020
Abstract Evaluating the efficiency of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is highly relevant to improve their performance from an economic and environmental perspective. The issue is even more critical in countries where WWTPs are benchmarked to regulate water companies and define WWTPs’ economic and environmental objectives. Despite the large number of previous studies on this topic, none has considered that the amount of outputs produced by the WWTPs is restricted by the concentration of pollutants in the effluent. To overcome this limitation, the study’s main objective was to propose a new variant of the Weighted Russell Directional Distance Model (WRDDM) that would solve problems regard…
