What color is your heart? The use of emojis in social activism processes

2020

2021

Bakalaura darba mērķis ir izpētīt emociju lietojumu sociālajā tīklā Twitter dažādos laika posmos un noteikt kā paustās emocijas mainās, piemēram, diennakts laikā. Mērķa sasniegšanai tiks apskatīta emociju pētniecības sociālajos tīklos, tās nepieciešamība un priekšrocības, tiks apskatīta emociju sistēma no kuras tiks izvēlēti pētījumā izmantotie emocijvārdi. Tiks izveidots Twitter datu analizēšanas korpuss, izmantojot Python programmēšanas valodu, kurā būs iespējams atlasīt Twitter ierakstus latviešu valodā pēc noteiktiem parametriem un iespēja apskatīt dažādas diagrammas, kurās tiks attēloti atlasītie dati, kā arī būs iespējams apskatīties atlasītos ierakstus tabulā. Darba rezultātā tiks iz…

An exploratory study of COVID-19 misinformation on Twitter.

2020

During the COVID-19 pandemic, social media has become a home ground for misinformation. To tackle this infodemic, scientific oversight, as well as a better understanding by practitioners in crisis management, is needed. We have conducted an exploratory study into the propagation, authors and content of misinformation on Twitter around the topic of COVID-19 in order to gain early insights. We have collected all tweets mentioned in the verdicts of fact-checked claims related to COVID-19 by over 92 professional fact-checking organisations between January and mid-July 2020 and share this corpus with the community. This resulted in 1 500 tweets relating to 1 274 false and 276 partially false cla…

The overstated generational gap in online news use? A consolidated infrastructural perspective

2021

Recent research by Taneja et al. suggested that digital infrastructures diminish the generational gap in news use by counteracting preference structures. We expand on this seminal work by arguing that an infrastructural perspective requires overcoming limitations of highly aggregated web tracking data used in prior research. We analyze the individual browsing histories of two representative samples of German Internet users collected in 2012 ( N = 2970) and 2018 ( N = 2045) and find robust evidence for a smaller generational gap in online news use than commonly assumed. While short news website visits mostly demonstrated infrastructural factors, longer news use episodes were shaped more by …

Supporting Awareness in Creative Group Work by Exposing Design Rationale

2011

When creativity is taken as a long-term, complex, and collaborative activity, support for awareness is required for group members to monitor the development of ideas, track how these ideas became narrowed, and understand how alternatives are being implemented and integrated by colleagues. In this paper, we investigate the effects of exposing design rationale to convey awareness, specifically activity awareness, in group creativity. Through evaluating a prototype, we investigate status updates that convey design rationale, and to what consequences, in small groups in fully distributed collaboration. We found that status updates are used for a variety of purposes and that participants’ commen…
