Social Psychology of Persuasion Applied to Human Agent Interaction
2008
This paper discusses and evaluates the application of a social psychologically enriched, user-centered approach to agent architecture design. The major aim is to facilitate human–agent interaction (HAI) by making agents not only algorithmically more intelligent but also socially more skillful in communicating with the user. A decision-making model and communicative argumentation strategies have been incorporated into the agent architecture. In the presented content resource management experiments, enhancement of human task performance is demonstrated for users that are supported by a persuasive agent. This superior performance seems to be rooted in a more trusting collaborative relationship…
Metonymy in Spanish and American parliamentary speeches: Obama’s State of the Union Address versus Rajoy’s State of the Nation Address
2018
This study attempts to analyze the metonymies used in the Economy section of two equivalent parliamentary speeches: the 2015 State of the Union Address in the US and the 2015 State of the Nation Debate in Spain, which belong to two different debate traditions. The present study aims at answering the following research questions:What metonymies do President Obama and Prime Minister Rajoy use in their American and Spanish parliamentary speeches in an attempt to convince the public of economic victory? What are the similarities and differences between the role of metonymy in shaping public opinion about economic recovery in America and Spain in both speeches? To answer these questions, we use th…

Emocjonalne techniki perswazyjne w blogach kulinarnych
2021
In this paper, we present emotional persuasive techniques that are most often used by well- known authors of culinary blogs. In the introductory part, we refer to the beginnings of gastronomie literaturę and show the development of culinary-related genres, starting from ancient cookbooks to culinary blogs. In the following sections, we discuss the distinguish- ingfeatures of culinary blogs, such as evaluation and emotionalization, as well as persuasive techniques to convince recipients to choose the right blog and recipe: likableness, credibil- ity, creating a community. In the finał part, we conclude that emotional marking and val- orisation of reality are the features that distinguish cul…
Unraveling the nature of universal dynamics in O(N) theories
2020
Many-body quantum systems far from equilibrium can exhibit universal scaling dynamics which defy standard classification schemes. Here, we disentangle the dominant excitations in the universal dynamics of highly occupied N-component scalar systems using unequal-time correlators. While previous equal-time studies have conjectured the infrared properties to be universal for all N, we clearly identify for the first time two fundamentally different phenomena relevant at different N. We find all N >= 3 to be indeed dominated by the same Lorentzian "large-N" peak, whereas N = 1 is characterized instead by a non-Lorentzian peak with different properties, and for N = 2, we see a mixture of two cont…
Anglotic: English Phonology
2010
This project offers students doing a degree in English and anyone interested in the English language the opportunity to perfect their pronunciation of English and/or to learn about the phonological system of English.

La forja de la posverdad en el discurso nacional-sindicalista: «Y» (1938-1945)
2018
In «Y» (1938-1945), the Women’s Section aims to contribute to the implementation of the values of Francoism, influencing the ideas and behaviour of Spanish women through the creation of a post-truth, which legitimizes and ensures the survival of power elites. In this paper, adopting the theoretical perspective of argumentative-persuasive discourse analysis, I will demonstrate how the national- syndicalist discourse creates its post-truth, through some “extra dictione” fallacies, based essentially on two macro-strategies: the negation of reality, and equally, the construction of a positive reality. En «Y» (1938-1945), la Sección femenina pretende coadyuvar la afirmación de los valores del fr…
Quasiconformal Jordan Domains
2020
We extend the classical Carath\'eodory extension theorem to quasiconformal Jordan domains $( Y, d_{Y} )$. We say that a metric space $( Y, d_{Y} )$ is a quasiconformal Jordan domain if the completion $\overline{Y}$ of $( Y, d_{Y} )$ has finite Hausdorff $2$-measure, the boundary $\partial Y = \overline{Y} \setminus Y$ is homeomorphic to $\mathbb{S}^{1}$, and there exists a homeomorphism $\phi \colon \mathbb{D} \rightarrow ( Y, d_{Y} )$ that is quasiconformal in the geometric sense. We show that $\phi$ has a continuous, monotone, and surjective extension $\Phi \colon \overline{ \mathbb{D} } \rightarrow \overline{ Y }$. This result is best possible in this generality. In addition, we find a n…
