Gibberellic acid and flower bud development in loquat (Eriobotrya japonica Lindl.)

2011

The application of gibberellic acid (GA 3) to the whole loquat tree from mid-May to early June and from early August to the onset of flowering, significantly reduced the number of premature flowering shoots per current shoot and per m 3 of canopy, and so reduced the total number of panicles per m 3 of canopy. The number of vegetative shoots per m 3 of canopy was also significantly reduced by applying GA 3. The response depended on the concentration applied and produced optimal results at 50mgl -1. Differences in the number of flowers per panicle and leaves per shoot were not significantly modified by the treatment. Nevertheless, GA 3 applied directly to the developing apex near to flower di…

Menaquinone-dependent succinate dehydrogenase of bacteria catalyzes reversed electron transport driven by the proton potential.

1998

Succinate dehydrogenases from bacteria and archaea using menaquinone (MK) as an electron acceptor (succinate/menaquinone oxidoreductases) contain, or are predicted to contain, two heme-B groups in the membrane-anchoring protein(s), located close to opposite sides of the membrane. All succinate/ubiquinone oxidoreductases, however, contain only one heme-B molecule. In Bacillus subtilis and other bacteria that use MK as the respiratory quinone, the succinate oxidase activity (succinate-->O2), and the succinate/menaquinone oxidoreductase activity were specifically inhibited by uncoupler (CCCP, carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenylhydrazone) or by agents dissipating the membrane potential (valinomycin…

El Terç del Cartoixà de Joan Roís de Corella. Edició i estudi

2016

Asymmetric Oxidative Mannich Reactions

2020

The asymmetric Mannich reaction is one of the most straightforward methodologies for the enantioselective synthesis of chiral amines. In general, asymmetric Mannich reactions involve the use of imines as electrophiles. However, in recent years, several asymmetric oxidative Mannich reactions have been reported using amines as electrophiles. This review provides an overview of these recent publications, including the different oxidants used and the scope and limitations of the different catalytic systems.

New artesunic acid homodimers: Potent reversal agents of multidrug resistance in leukemia cells

2012

Abstract To evade the problem of multidrug resistance, hybridization of natural products in dimers is considered as an effective method. After the successful synthesis of three artesunic acid homodimers connected by different types of chemical linkers, we analyzed their activity against human CCRF-CEM and multidrug-resistant p -glycoprotein-overexpressing CEM/ADR 5000 leukemia cells and observed, that multidrug resistant cells were not cross-resistant to the new compounds. Collateral sensitivity was observed for artesunic acid homodimer 2. The obtained results deliver valuable information about the linker’s structure which is required for homodimers to be highly cytotoxic.

Design of enzyme-mediated controlled release systems based on silica mesoporous supports capped with ester-glycol groups

2012

[EN] An ethylene glycol-capped hybrid material for the controlled release of molecules in the presence of esterase enzyme has been prepared. The final organic-inorganic hybrid solid S1 was synthesized by a two-step procedure. In the first step, the pores of an inorganic MCM-41 support (in the form of nanoparticles) were loaded with [Ru(bipy) 3]Cl 2 complex, and then, in the second step, the pore outlets were functionalized with ester glycol moieties that acted as molecular caps. In the absence of an enzyme, release of the complex from aqueous suspensions of S1 at pH 8.0 is inhibited due to the steric hindrance imposed by the bulky ester glycol moieties. Upon addition of esterase enzyme, del…
