Abstract By the aid of circular dichroism (CD), absorbance and fluorescence spectroscopy, we studied the molecular organization of the pigment molecules in cells, isolated chloroplasts and the chlorophyll a / c light-harvesting complex (LHC) associated with photosystem II of the chlorphyll c -containing alga, Pleurochloris meiringensis . In cells and chloroplasts, similarly to higher plant chloroplasts, a (+) 693 nm CD band accompanied by a tail outside the absorbance indicated a long-range chiral organization of the chlorophyll molecules. Ultrasound-assisted green solvent extraction of high-added value compounds from microalgae Nannochloropsis spp.

Abstract The aim of this work was to investigate ultrasound (US)-assisted green solvent extraction of valuable compounds from the microalgae Nannochloropsis spp. Individual green solvents (water, ethanol (EtOH), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO)) and binary mixture of solvents (water-DMSO and water-EtOH) were used for the extraction procedures. Maximum total phenolic compounds yield ( Y p  ≈ 0.33) was obtained after US pre-treatment ( W  = 400 W, 15 min), being almost 5-folds higher compared to that found for the untreated samples and aqueous extraction ( Y p  ≈ 0.06). Objective: The aim was to analyze effects of a percutaneous neuromodulation (PNM) treatment on the radial nerve, regarding pain, functionality, electrophysiologic excitability, and morphology, in patients with chronic lateral epicondylalgia (LE). Methods: Twenty-four patients with chronic unilateral elbow pain were recruited for this preliminary study and were divided into two groups: control (n = 12) and PNM group (n = 12). Noninvasive evaluation of the celiac trunk and superior mesenteric artery with multislice CT in patients with chronic mesenteric ischaemia.

This study sought to assess the role of multislice computed tomography (MSCT) in patients with suspected chronic mesenteric ischaemia (CMI). Forty-five patients (29 men; mean age 68) underwent MSCT angiography of the abdomen for suspected CMI (main clinical finding: postprandial abdominal pain). The scan protocol was detectors/collimation 16/0.75 mm; feed 36 mm/s; rotation time 500 ms; increment 0.4 mm; 120-150 mAs and 120 kVp. Abstract The presence of (±)α-pinene, (+)β-pinene, (+)3-carene, and R-(+)limonene terpenes in wastewater of a citrus transformation factory was detected and analyzed, in a previous study, by using Solid Phase Micro-extraction (SPME) followed by GC analyses. Purpose of that research was to compare the genotoxic responses of mixtures of terpenes with the genotoxicity of the individual compounds, and the biological effects of actual wastewater. Genotoxicity was evaluated in the Salmonella reversion assay (Ames test) and in V79 cells by Comet assay.
