AbstractThis study contends that phenomenography offers both a useful research method and practical tools for developing education and training for career practitioners. This study will introduce a tool – termed NLPYTALY – for the automatictreatment of naturally-occurring texts in Italian. The tool distinguishesconstructs with an ordinary verb from those with a support verb. Mean-ing is rendered by using cognate (i.e. etymologically related) semantic roles (CSR), which differ from other roles because they are expressed withthe content morpheme of the predicate licensing arguments. The key information for these tasks lies on semantic labels of the scene parts and the motion trajectories of the dynamic objects. In this work, we propose a method that segments the 3D feature trajectories based on their motion behaviours, and assigns them semantic labels using 2D-to-3D label transfer. The present study focused on the knowledge about the nature of science and the question of the extent to which this knowledge could be explained by employing scientific knowledge, as well as attitudes towards science learning. We obtained data from 171 Spanish pre-service primary school teachers on their knowledge about: a) science concepts, b) science process skills, c) the nature of science (that was split into science construction and validation and the role and function of scientific models), and d) their attitudes towards science learning. The guiding thesis of this chapter is that self-understanding is centrally an existential challenge. In particular, the chapter aims to lay bare the massive potential of our desire for social affirmation to influence and distort our self-understanding, mostly in a covert and unacknowledged fashion. To the extent that we are driven by this desire, we are primarily concerned with assessing, in an emotionally charged and self-deceptive manner, the social worth of our self, whereas we lack the will and ability to understand ourselves in an open and unqualified manner.
