How students perceive the university's mission in a Spanish university: Liberal versus entrepreneurial education?

2013

AbstractThis study explores the extent to which undergraduate students perceive a dichotomy between a liberal vs. an entrepreneurial model of university. This research is important in that it compares the stated aims of university education, particularly within the Bologna Process, with students' expectations regarding liberal education and employability. A Likert-type questionnaire containing 25 statements reflecting liberal and entrepreneurial features of university education was answered by 488 students from 10 disciplines at the University of Valencia, Spain, just before the implantation of the Bologna curriculum. ‘I don’t feel like I’m studying languages anymore’ : Exploring change in higher education students’ learner beliefs during multilingual language stud…

To assess the effects of multilingual teaching in this kind of contex…

Family-student balance: a qualitative study about limitations of university mothers

2016

The balance between family and student life, viewed as the possibility of being a mother and university student at the same time, is still not seen as something usual in higher education. In this study, using a qualitative, narrative-based methodology based on semi-structured interviews, we analysed the beliefs and attitudes of a total of 73 university students. They reflect on aspects of the academic career that restrict the student-family balance. The students’ opinions revealed the limitations on the possibilities of having children, included some proposals for improvements to the legislation, and their at…
