Local uniqueness of the solutions for a singularly perturbed nonlinear nonautonomous transmission problem
2020
Abstract We consider the Laplace equation in a domain of R n , n ≥ 3 , with a small inclusion of size ϵ . On the boundary of the inclusion we define a nonlinear nonautonomous transmission condition. For ϵ small enough one can prove that the problem has solutions. In this paper, we study the local uniqueness of such solutions.
Nurses experience of aromatherapy use with dementia patients experiencing disturbed sleep patterns. An action research project
2013
The purpose of this study was to gain an insight into nurses' experiences of incorporating aromatherapy into the care of residents suffering from dementia, anxiety and disturbed sleep patterns. Twenty-four residents and twelve nurses from four nursing homes participated in an action research study. The use of lavender augustofolia essential oil diffused nightly was perceived as an effective care modality reducing insomnia and anxiety in this patient cohort. Nurses experienced some negative attitudes among colleagues because they considered aromatherapy as not evidence based. Nurses require greater access to evidence based use of Aromatherapy. Further research is needed to study how smell ca…

Series expansion for the effective conductivity of a periodic dilute composite with thermal resistance at the two-phase interface
2019
We study the asymptotic behavior of the effective thermal conductivity of a periodic two-phase dilute composite obtained by introducing into an infinite homogeneous matrix a periodic set of inclusions of a different material, each of them of size proportional to a positive parameter ?. We assume that the normal component of the heat flux is continuous at the two-phase interface, while we impose that the temperature field displays a jump proportional to the normal heat flux. For ? small, we prove that the effective conductivity can be represented as a convergent power series in ? and we determine the coefficients in terms of the solutions of explicit systems of integral equations.
The Global Soil Mycobiome consortium dataset for boosting fungal diversity research
2021
This version of the article has been accepted for publication, after peer review and is subject to Springer Nature’s AM terms of use, but is not the Version of Record and does not reflect post-acceptance improvements, or any corrections. The Version of Record is available online at https://doi.org/10.1007/s13225-021-00493-7. Fungi are highly important biotic components of terrestrial ecosystems, but we still have a very limited understanding about their diversity and distribution. This data article releases a global soil fungal dataset of the Global Soil Mycobiome consortium (GSMc) to boost further research in fungal diversity, biogeography and macroecology. The dataset comprises 722,682 fu…
Parallel Schwarz methods for convection-dominated semilinear diffusion problems
2002
AbstractParallel two-level Schwarz methods are proposed for the numerical solution of convection-diffusion problems, with the emphasis on convection-dominated problems. Two variants of the methodology are investigated. They differ from each other by the type of boundary conditions (Dirichlet- or Neumann-type) posed on a part of the second-level subdomain interfaces. Convergence properties of the two-level Schwarz methods are experimentally compared with those of a variant of the standard multi-domain Schwarz alternating method. Numerical experiments performed on a distributed memory multiprocessor computer illustrate parallel efficiency of the methods.
Six lettres de Giuseppe Peano à Robert de Montessus de Ballore
2012
Nous transcrivons et analysons six lettres inédites que Giuseppe Peano a adressées au mathématicien français Robert de Montessus de Ballore entre 1896 et 1902. Nous montrons comment ces lettres témoignent de l'activité mathématique des deux scientifiques.
Breather dynamics in a stochastic sine-Gordon equation: evidence of noise-enhanced stability
2023
The dynamics of sine-Gordon breathers is studied in the presence of dissipative and stochastic perturbations. Taking a stationary breather with a random phase value as the initial state, the performed simulations demonstrate that a spatially-homogeneous noisy source can make the oscillatory excitation more stable, i.e., it enables the latter to last significantly longer than it would in a noise-free scenario. Both the frequency domain and the localization of energy are examined to document the effectiveness of the noise-enhanced stability phenomenon, which emerges as a nonmonotonic behavior of an average characteristic time for the breather as a function of the noise intensity. The influenc…
Comparison of parallel implementation of some multi-level Schwarz methods for singularly perturbed parabolic problems
1999
Abstract Parallel multi-level algorithms combining a time discretization and an overlapping domain decomposition technique are applied to the numerical solution of singularly perturbed parabolic problems. Two methods based on the Schwarz alternating procedure are considered: a two-level method with auxiliary “correcting” subproblems as well as a three-level method with auxiliary “predicting” and “correcting” subproblems. Moreover, modifications of the methods using time extrapolation on subdomain interfaces are investigated. The emphasis is given to the description of the algorithms as well as their computer realization on a distributed memory multiprocessor computer. Numerical experiments …
Danno all'immagine della P.A., lotta all'assenteismo e potere disciplinare
2021
With decision no. 61/2020 the Constitutional Court has declared unconstitutional art. 55-quater, paragraph 3-quater, of Legislative decree 165/2001 because of the contrast with art. 76 of the Constitution. Therefore, the Court deems that Law 124/2015 – authorizing the government to introduce the unconstitutional provision – only deals with the disciplinary procedure: in this connection, new forms of administrative responsibility are out of the scope of Law 124/2015, as the damage to the image for unjustified absences of public employees. The decision deserves attention to reflect upon the rigid disciplinary regime which public employees are subject to after the privatization, in connection …
