Nickel(II) inhibits the repair of O 6 -methylguanine in mammalian cells
1999
Nickel compounds are widespread carcinogens, and although only weakly mutagenic, interfere with nucleotide excision repair and with the repair of oxidative DNA base modifications. In the present study we investigated the effect of nickel(II) on the induction and repair of O6-methylguanine and N7-methylguanine after treatment with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea (MNU). We applied Chinese hamster ovary cells stably transfected with human O6-methylguanine-DNA methyltransferase (MGMT) cDNA (CHO-AT), and compared the results with the MGMT-deficient parental cell line. As determined by high-performance liquid chromatography/electrochemical detection (HPLC/ECD), there was a slight but mostly not significan…
The Se … Hal halogen bonding: Co-crystals of selenoureas with fluorinated organohalides
2021
Abstract Synthesis and structural characterization of binary co-crystals 1–4 is reported in the present paper. Selenourea and 1,1-dimethylselenourea were used as selenium-containing halogen bond (XB) acceptors and iodopentafluorobenzene (IPFB), 1,4-diiodotetrafluorobenzene (1,4-DIFB) and 1,4-dibromotetrafluorobenzene (1,4-DBrFB) as XB donors. A comparative analysis of the similar binary co-crystals of selenourea and thiourea with a halogen donor revealed that Se … Hal halogen bonds are up to 13.12% shorter than the sum of vdW radii, while in case of S … Hal halogen bonds this value is 11.4%. Therefore, selenium tends to form stronger bonds with halogens than sulfur does. Comparisons of XB i…
Helicobacter pylori Infection in Type 1 Diabetes Children and Adolescents Using 13C Urea Breath Test
2014
There is a 10–30% prevalence of HP infection in the general pediatric population in Poland. This study aimed to determine its prevalence in T1DM children in Upper Silesia, Poland and estimate its influence on metabolic control of patients. We studied 149(82♀) children with T1DM (duration >12 months, mean HbA1c) and 298(164♀) age-matched controls. In all cases height and weight z-scores and Cole’s index were assessed. In T1DM patients additionally glycated hemoglobin A1c and T1DM duration were analyzed. Presence of HP infection was determined using 13C-isotope-labeled urea breath test (UBT) (fasting and 30min after ingestion 75 mg of 13C urea). HP infection was present in 17 (11.4%) T1DM pat…
The 13C urea breath test in the diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection
1999
Summary The urea breath test (UBT) is one of the most important non-invasive methods for detecting Helicobacter pylori infection. The test exploits the hydrolysis of orally administered urea by the enzyme urease, which H pylori produces in large quantities. Urea is hydrolysed to ammonia and carbon dioxide, which diVuses into the blood and is excreted by the lungs. Isotopically labelled CO2 can be detected in breath using various methods. Labelling urea with 13 C is becoming increasingly popular because this non-radioactive isotope is innocuous and can be safely used in children and women of childbearing age. Breath samples can also be sent by post or courier to remote analysis centres. The …
Utilization of mulberry leaves (Morus latifolia cv. Kokusou 21) in diets for dairy ewes
2009
Twelve Valle del Belice lactating ewes were divided into three homogeneous groups and fed ad libitum the following diets in a 3 x 3 Latin square design: sulla hay (HA); sulla hay and Mulberry leaves (M. leaves) (HM); M. leaves (MU). DM intake of MU ewes was lower than that of HM ewes, with an intermediate level for HA ewes. HM ewes showed to prefer M. leaves to hay, but their need to balance the high protein and low NDF contents of M. leaves by eating hay also emerged. Milk yield increased as the dietary content of M. leaves increased- In addition, the use of HM and MU diets led to higher milk fat and urea content in comparison with the HA diet. The results confirmed that M. leaves are a su…
Some data on the transmission of the lives of saints between the Middle Ages and the modern era in the Crown of Aragon
2019
Central bureaucracy and the restriction of education in early nineteenth‐century Finland
1996
In this article it is argued that the peculiar character of the Finnish nobility, on the one hand, is an important factorto explain the special interests of the bureaucracy in formal education in the first half of the 19th century. On the other hand, good opportunities for the realizing of these interests arose in the construction of the central bureaucracy of the Grand Duchy
Hydrogen bonded calixarene capsules kinetically stable in DMSO.
2002
Half-life times up to 4 days in DMSO at room temperature are observed for the decomposition of dimeric capsules of urea substituted calix[4]arenes held together by a combination of hydrogen bonds, mechanical entanglement and cation–π interactions.
