Short-term cost-effectiveness of psychodynamic therapy and cognitive-behavioral therapy in social anxiety disorder: Results from the SOPHO-NET trial

Abstract Background To investigate the short-term cost-effectiveness of cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and psychodynamic therapy (PDT) compared to waiting list (WL). Methods The analysis was conducted alongside the SOPHO-NET multi-center efficacy trial. Patients were randomly assigned to CBT ( n =209), PDT ( n =207), or WL ( n =79). Resource use was assessed prior and during treatment to determine direct and absenteeism costs. Our research pursues the production of hypo-oncotic artificial oxygen carriers, based on artificial covalently cross-linked hyperpolymeric mammalian haemoglobins. To evaluate their in vivo efficiency in oxygen delivery to the tissue we developed a small animal model of stepwise isovolaemic blood exchange in anaesthetised, spontaneously breathing rats. With the aid of a two-way respiratory micro valve for small animals the overall oxygen uptake by the tissue of the animal can be determined. SNPs array karyotyping reveals a novel recurrent 20p13 amplification in primary myelofibrosis.

The molecular pathogenesis of primary mielofibrosis (PMF) is still largely unknown. Recently, single-nucleotide polymorphism arrays (SNP-A) allowed for genome-wide profiling of copy-number alterations and acquired uniparental disomy (aUPD) at high-resolution. In this study we analyzed 20 PMF patients using the Genome-Wide Human SNP Array 6.0 in order to identify novel recurrent genomic abnormalities. We observed a complex karyotype in all cases, detecting all the previously reported lesions (del(5q), del(20q), del(13q), +8, aUPD at 9p24 and abnormalities on chromosome 1). Antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of Acacia pennata wild (Mimosaceae)

The butanolic fraction of dried leaves of Acacia pennata (Mimosaceae) was tested for analgesic and anti-inflammatory activities in animal models. It showed significant protective effects against chemical stimuli (acetic acid and formalin) in the mouse. It also produced a significant increase of the threshold of sensitivity to pressure-induced pain in the rats. The extract revealed an inhibitory effect in carrageenin-induced rat paw oedema in the late phase. The results suggested that a peripheral mechanism is involved in the analgesic, associated to anti-inflammatory effect (NSAIDs-like). Floor and ceiling effects of the World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 among patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain

The aim of this study was to investigate the floor and ceiling effects of 12-item World Health Organization Disability Assessment Schedule 2.0 (WHODAS). This was a cross-sectional survey study at a university’s physical and rehabilitation medicine outpatient clinic of 1988 patients with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Floor and ceiling effects were calculated as relative frequencies of the lowest or the highest possible scores for each item.
