Nonetheless, it is still unclear how local movements are related to resource availability and the spatial arrangement of resources. This study focuses on differences between multiple-choice science tests and a learning-from-text (LFT) test, and how these tests predict success in basic medical studies. The subjects (N = 503) were applicants to the Helsinki University Medical Faculty. All of them had to take an entrance examination in order to be considered for admission to a 6-year study programme combining medical school and graduate studies. In this paper, a newly developed controller for active heave compensated offshore cranes is compared with state-of-the-art control methods. The comparison is divided into a numerical part on stability margins as well as operational windows and an experimental validation of the expected performance improvement based on a full-scale testing on site with a crane rated to 250 metric tons. Analysis of Activity States of Local Neuronal Microcircuits in Mouse Brain

Time series of neuronal activity corresponding to different activity states in mouse brain are analyzed in the time domain and the time-frequency domain. The signals are associated with either a slow wave brain state or a persistent brain state. For both states, characteristic spectral features are identified and a simple detector is proposed that is able to identify the brain state with low latency and high accuracy. In practice, being able to monitor the brain state online and in real time is crucial for improved in vivoexperiments and, ultimately, for a causal understanding of brain dynamics.

Abstract Adult neural stem cells with the ability to generate neurons and glia cells are active throughout life in both the dentate gyrus (DG) and the subventricular zone (SVZ). Differentiation of adult neural stem cells is induced by cell fate determinants like the transcription factor Prox1. Evidence has been provided for a function of Prox1 as an inducer of neuronal differentiation within the DG. We now show that within the SVZ Prox1 induces differentiation into oligodendrocytes.
