Our aim with this work was to determine the relevance of sperm DNA oxidation on embryo quality in oocyte donation cycles. Analysis of cytokine and specific antibody profiles in hydatid patients with primary infection and relapse of disease

We studied in vitro cytokine production by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC) from patients with primary and recurrent hydatid disease when cells were incubated with mitogen (PHA) and antigen from hydatid cyst fluid (HCFAg); levels of specific IgE, IgG4 and eosinophil counts were also measured in sera. When specifically stimulated, PBMC from patients produced higher levels of IL-2 (P < 0.02), IFN-γ (P < 0.0028) and IL-5 (P < 0.01) than those from uninfected donors, whereas IL-10 levels were comparable. In vitro Analysis of Synergistic Effects of Fibrinolytic Agents and Prostacyclin Analogues

We investigated the in vitro thrombolytic effects of streptoki-nase, urokinase, alteplase and saruplase, alone or in combination, with the prostacyclin analogues, iloprost and taprostene. Human platelet-rich plasma was stimulated with collagen (1 μg/ml) to generate thrombi containing platelets and fibrin. Following treatment with fibrinolytic agents, lysis was allowed to proceed for 30 min and was then terminated with aprotinin (2,000 ClU/ml). Several studies have shown that HLA-B8,DR3 positive subjects may display T cell dysfunctions. Recently, a soluble form of the receptor for IL-2 (sIL-2R) has been demonstrated in human sera and in vitro-stimulated culture supernatant from human T lymphocytes. In the present paper we report sIL-2R serum levels and sIL-2R production from peripheral blood mononuclear cells in HLA-B8,DR3 positive subjects. We found that HLA-B8,DR3 positive subjects have the highest values of serum sIL-2R, but comparing the values of these subjects with those of negative ones no significant difference was observed. The aims of the present study were to assess the bond strength and failure sites in two ways of bonding technique, with metallic and ceramic brackets. Objective: To analyze, using confocal microscope, the three-dimensional characteristics of the root-end cavity preparations completed in root apices of extracted teeth determining their area, perimeter, circularity and cavo-surface angle. Anti-Inflammatory Effects of Onions: Inhibition of Chemotaxis of Human Polymorphonuclear Leukocytes by Thiosulfinates and Cepaenes

Seven different synthetic thiosulfinates, and cepaene- and/or thiosulfinate-rich onion extracts were found to inhibit in vitro the chemotaxis of human granulocytes induced by formyl-methionine-leucinephenylalanine in a dose-dependent manner and at a concentration range of 0.1–100 μ&lt;i&gt;M&lt;/i&gt;. Diphenylthiosulfinate showed the highest activity and was found to be more active than prednisolone. The anti-inflammatory properties of onion extracts are related, at least in part, to the inhibition of inflammatory cell influx by thiosulfinates and cepaenes.
