Solar PAR and UVR modify the community composition and photosynthetic activity of sea ice algae

The effects of increased photosynthetically active radiation (PAR) and ultraviolet radiation (UVR) on species diversity, biomass and photosynthetic activity were studied in fast ice algal communities. The experimental set-up consisted of nine 1.44 m(2) squares with three treatments: untreated with natural snow cover (UNT), snow-free (PAR + UVR) and snow-free ice covered with a UV screen (PAR). The total algal biomass, dominated by diatoms and dinoflagellates, increased in all treatments during the experiment. However, the smaller biomass growth in the top 10-cm layer of the PAR + UVR treatment compared with the PAR treatment indicated the negative effect of UVR. Scrippsiella complex (mainly…

The imbalance and the chaos in which Baroque man lived, changed his vision of his entourage and at the same time they excluded the gratuitousness of his actions. His fascinations are messages to be deciphered, his rejections and attachments represent revealing clues and testimonials. Our study tries to explain the reasons of the fascination of the baroque generation for the liquid element through the examination of the imaginary of its aspects in the baroque work. A comparison of HDFS compact data formats: Avro versus Parquet

In this paper, file formats like Avro and Parquet are compared with text formats to evaluate the performance of the data queries. Different data query patterns have been evaluated. Cloudera’s open-source Apache Hadoop distribution CDH 5.4 has been chosen for the experiments presented in this article. The results show that compact data formats (Avro and Parquet) take up less storage space when compared with plain text data formats because of binary data format and compression advantage. Furthermore, data queries from the column based data format Parquet are faster when compared with text data formats and Avro. Article in English.
