Some analytical considerations on two-scale relations

1994

Scaling functions that generate a multiresolution analysis (MRA) satisfy, among other conditions, the so-called «two-scale relation» (TSR). In this paper we discuss a number of properties that follow from the TSR alone, independently of any MRA: position of zeros (mainly for continuous scaling functions), existence theorems (using fixed point and eigenvalue arguments) and orthogonality relation between integer translates. © 1994 Società Italiana di Fisica.

Eksotiikkaa vai ihmisarvoa: Opettajan monikulttuurisesta kompetenssista

2005

Maahanmuuttajien määrän lisääntyminen Suomessa 1990-luvulta lähtien ja samaan aikaan tapahtunut yhteiskunnallinen murros näkyvät koulun arjessa. Näiden asioiden myötä opettajan yhteiskunnallinen vastuu on lisääntynyt. Tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli kartoittaa opettajien monikulttuurisia valmiuksia ylläpitää erilaisten oppijoiden arvokkuutta. Opettajan selkiintynyt minäkuva, arvomaailma ja ammatillisuus mahdollistavat myönteisen suhtautumisen elämään ja työhön. Opettajan työ helpottuu, jos koulun ilmapiiri tukee erilaisuuden hyväksymistä opettajien välisen, opettaja-oppilas -välisen sekä koulun ja vanhempien välisen avoimen vuorovaikutuksen kautta. Tutkimus on jatkotutkimus Talibin aikaisemma…

Kollokationen in Leserbriefen der Wochenzeitschrift Die Zeit

2020

Maximal respiratory pressure reference values for Navajo children ages 6-14

2013

Background Since anthropometric variables are critical to the creation of pulmonary nomograms for FVC, FEV1, and other volumes and capacities, it is logical that anthropometric variables also influence the values of the maximal respiratory pressures (MRPs). Since nomograms are race-specific, it is important that tribe-specific tables of normal maximal inspiratory pressure (MIP) and maximal expiratory pressure (MEP) be developed. To date normal tables for MRPs do not exist for Navajo children. Objective Therefore the purpose of this study was to derive MRP normative reference values for Navajo children in the age range of 6–14 years. Methods—Participants and Measurements A cross-sectional st…

Pseudo-bosons and Riesz Bi-coherent States

2016

After a brief review on D-pseudo-bosons we introduce what we call Riesz bi-coherent states, which are pairs of states sharing with ordinary coherent states most of their features. In particular, they produce a resolution of the identity and they are eigenstates of two different annihilation operators which obey pseudo-bosonic commutation rules.

Strong quantum scarring by local impurities

2016

We discover and characterize strong quantum scars, or eigenstates resembling classical periodic orbits, in two-dimensional quantum wells perturbed by local impurities. These scars are not explained by ordinary scar theory, which would require the existence of short, moderately unstable periodic orbits in the perturbed system. Instead, they are supported by classical resonances in the unperturbed system and the resulting quantum near-degeneracy. Even in the case of a large number of randomly scattered impurities, the scars prefer distinct orientations that extremize the overlap with the impurities. We demonstrate that these preferred orientations can be used for highly efficient transport of…

Diagnostic use of fructosamine assay in the control of type II diabetes mellitus.

1988

In an attempt to evaluate the usefulness of fructosamine assay in monitoring type II diabetes, 142 diabetic patients were investigated. Fructosamine values were found to be higher in patients on insulin treatment than on oral hypoglycemic agents. In order to evaluate the metabolic control by using the correlated variations of F, Gm and HbAlc, the patients were subdivided into many control classes: mean values of fructosamine were higher in poorly controlled patients. Fructosamine however correlated better with glycemia in patients with recent variations in metabolic state than HbAlc. It was concluded that fructosamine is a good index for short-term metabolic control, and if used in an integ…

Validation of the simplified Animal Naming Test as primary screening tool for the diagnosis of covert hepatic encephalopathy

2019

Diagnosis of covert hepatic encephalopathy (CHE) is time consuming in clinical practice. Recently, a new diagnostic tool - the simplified Animal Naming Test (S-ANT1) - was presented with promising results in an Italian cohort. The aim of the present study was to validate S-ANT1 in a cohort of cirrhotic patients from a German tertiary referral centre.143 cirrhotic patients and 37 healthy controls were enrolled. Hepatic encephalopathy (HE) grade 1 (HE1) was clinically diagnosed according to the West-Haven Criteria. Critical flicker frequency and Psychometric Hepatic Encephalopathy Score were used to detect minimal HE (MHE). All participants were additionally examined by S-ANT1.58 (40.6%) pati…

Therapeutic management and evolution of chronic hepatitis B: does HIV still have an impact? The EPIB 2012 study

2015

EA Pôle MERS Hors CT hors EJ; International audience; Background & Aims: To compare the management of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and its evolution over time in currently followed HIV-positive and HIV-negative patients. Methods: A total of 709 consecutive patients with past or present positive HBs antigenemia seen in October 2012 in 19 French participating centres were included. The data were retrospectively collected from the first visit onwards through standardized questionnaires. Results: Chronic hepatitis B was less often assessed in the 299 HIV-positive patients, who were older, more likely to be male, excessive alcohol drinkers and HBe antigen-, HCV- and HDV-positive. They were also fol…

The behaviour of OKT3-, OKT4- and OKT8-positive cells during phases of elevated spontaneous chemiluminescence activity (CL-A) in multiple sclerosis p…

1987

The chemiluminescence activity (CL-A; synonym = burst activity, BA) and the percentage of OKT3-, OKT4- and OKT8-positive peripheral blood cells were serially examined in four control persons and in eight patients with multiple sclerosis. When the OKT values obtained in phases of increased CL-A (clinical remission) were compared with those of the control group, the percentage of OKT3-positive cells was reduced (P = 0.014), and that of OKT4-positive cells increased (P = 0.014); there were no significant changes in the percentage of OKT8-positive cells (P = 0.171). After the CL-A had returned to normal values, the OKT4-positive cells remained elevated (P = 0.029), whereas the OKT3- (P = 0.342)…
