Levy flights in confining environments: Random paths and their statistics
2013
We analyze a specific class of random systems that are driven by a symmetric L\'{e}vy stable noise. In view of the L\'{e}vy noise sensitivity to the confining "potential landscape" where jumps take place (in other words, to environmental inhomogeneities), the pertinent random motion asymptotically sets down at the Boltzmann-type equilibrium, represented by a probability density function (pdf) $\rho_*(x) \sim \exp [-\Phi (x)]$. Since there is no Langevin representation of the dynamics in question, our main goal here is to establish the appropriate path-wise description of the underlying jump-type process and next infer the $\rho (x,t)$ dynamics directly from the random paths statistics. A pr…
Photoproduction of neutral pion pairs from the proton
2000
Double neutral pion photoproduction from the proton has been measured at MAMI for photon energies between threshold and 820 MeV. The reaction was identified by an invariant mass and missing mass analysis. From threshold up to 370 MeV the total cross-section does not exceed 30 nb. For higher energies it shows a smooth rise until it reaches a maximum of about 10 μb at Eγ = 740 MeV. Dalitz plots of m2(π0π0) versusm2(p,π0) for seven bins of incident photon energy have been analysed. For Eγ > 610 MeV, a strong contribution of a sequential decay is observed with the Δ(1232)-resonance as intermediate state. A comparison to model calculations shows that these sequential decays presumably originate …
Equivariant Triviality of Quasi-Monomial Triangular $$\mathbb{G}_{a}$$-Actions on $$\mathbb{A}^{4}$$
2014
We give a direct and self-contained proof of the fact that additive group actions on affine four-space generated by certain types of triangular derivations are translations whenever they are proper. The argument, which is based on explicit techniques, provides an illustration of the difficulties encountered and an introduction to the more abstract methods which were used recently by the authors to solve the general triangular case.
Probing the Quantum Interference between Singly and Doubly Resonant Top-Quark Production in pp Collisions at s=13 TeV with the ATLAS Detector
2018
This Letter presents a normalized differential cross-section measurement in a fiducial phase-space region where interference effects between top-quark pair production and associated production of a single top quark with a W boson and a b-quark are significant. Events with exactly two leptons (ee, μμ, or eμ) and two b-tagged jets that satisfy a multiparticle invariant mass requirement are selected from 36.1 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data taken at sqrt[s]=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC in 2015 and 2016. The results are compared with predictions from simulations using various strategies for the interference. The standard prescriptions for interference modeling are signifi…
Dynamical seesaw mechanism for Dirac neutrinos
2016
So far we have not been able to establish that, as theoretically expected, neutrinos are their own anti-particles. Here we propose a dynamical way to account for the Dirac nature of neutrinos and the smallness of their mass in terms of a new variant of the seesaw paradigm in which the energy scale of neutrino mass generation could be accessible to the current LHC experiments.
Intronic Variant in CNTNAP2 Gene in a Boy With Remarkable Conduct Disorder, Minor Facial Features, Mild Intellectual Disability, and Seizures
2020
Introduction: Mutations in the contactin-associated protein-like 2 (CNTNAP2) gene (MIM#604569) encoding for CASPR2, a cell adhesion protein of the neurexin family, are known to be associated with autism, intellectual disability, and other neuropsychiatric disorders. A set of intronic deletions of CNTNAP2 gene has also been suggested to have a causative role in individuals with a wide phenotypic spectrum, including Pitt-Hopkins syndrome, cortical dysplasia–focal epilepsy syndrome, Tourette syndrome, language dysfunction, and abnormal behavioral manifestations. Case presentation: A 10-years-old boy was referred to the hospital with mild intellectual disability and language impairment. Moreove…
The Atrial Natriuretic Peptide Genetic Variant rs5068 Is Associated With a Favorable Cardiometabolic Phenotype in a Mediterranean Population
2013
OBJECTIVE We hypothesized that the minor allele of the atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) genetic variant rs5068 is associated with a favorable cardiometabolic phenotype in a general Mediterranean population. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS We genotyped a random sample of the residents of Ventimiglia di Sicilia, Sicily, for rs5068. RESULTS Genotype frequencies of rs5068 are AA, 93.5%; AG, 6.4%; and GG, 0.1%. All subsequent analyses are AA versus AG+GG. After adjusting for age and sex, the minor G allele is associated with lower BMI (estimate [SE]: −1.7 kg/m2 [0.8], P = 0.04). In the AG+GG group, males with HDL cholesterol levels <40 mg/dL are less frequent (P = 0.05) and obesity tends to …
The radiative decay of the Lambda(1405) and its two-pole structure
2007
We evaluate theoretically the radiative decay widths into $\gamma\Lambda$ and $\gamma\Sigma^0$ of the two poles of the $\Lambda(1405)$ found in chiral unitary theories and we find quite different results for each of the two poles. We show that, depending on which reaction is used to measure the $\Lambda(1405)$ radiative decays, one gives more weight to one or the other pole, resulting in quite different shapes in the $\gamma\Lambda(\Sigma^0)$ invariant mass distributions. Our results for the high-energy pole agree with those of the empirical determination of the $\gamma\Lambda$ and $\gamma\Sigma^0$ radiative widths (based on an isobar model fitting of the $K^-p$ atom data), which are someti…
Voisinages tubulaires épointés et homotopie stable à l'infini
2022
We initiate a study of punctured tubular neighborhoods and homotopy theory at infinity in motivic settings. We use the six functors formalism to give an intrinsic definition of the stable motivic homotopy type at infinity of an algebraic variety. Our main computational tools include cdh-descent for normal crossing divisors, Euler classes, Gysin maps, and homotopy purity. Under-adic realization, the motive at infinity recovers a formula for vanishing cycles due to Rapoport-Zink; similar results hold for Steenbrink's limiting Hodge structures and Wildeshaus' boundary motives. Under the topological Betti realization, the stable motivic homotopy type at infinity of an algebraic variety recovers…
THE OPERATOR PRODUCT EXPANSION OF THE QCD PROPAGATORS
1992
We bring together for the first time the coefficients in covariant gauges of all the condensates of dimension four or less in the operator product expansion (OPE) of the quark, gluon and ghost propagators. It is stressed that contrary to general belief the condensates do not enter the OPE of the propagators in gauge-invariant combinations like [Formula: see text] and 〈G2〉. The results are presented in arbitrary dimension to lowest order in the light quark masses for the SU (Nc) internal symmetry group. All terms which, through the equations of motion, may be viewed as being effectively of order αs are included. The importance of the equations of motion if one is to fulfill the Slavnov-Tayl…
