On almost nilpotent varieties of subexponential growth

Abstract Let N 2 be the variety of left-nilpotent algebras of index two, that is the variety of algebras satisfying the identity x ( y z ) ≡ 0 . We introduce two new varieties, denoted by V sym and V alt , contained in the variety N 2 and we prove that V sym and V alt are the only two varieties almost nilpotent of subexponential growth.
Characterizing varieties of colength ≤4

Let A be an associative algebra over a field F of characteristic zero, and let χ n (A), n = 1,2,…, be the sequence of cocharacters of A. For every n ≥ 1, let l n (A) denote the nth colength of A, counting the number of S n -irreducibles appearing in χ n (A). In this article, we classify the algebras A such that the sequence of colengths l n (A), n = 1,2,…, is bounded by four. Moreover we construct a finite number of algebras A 1,…, A d , such that l n (A) ≤ 4 if and only if A 1,…, A d ∉ var(A).
Varieties of superalgebras of almost polynomial growth

Abstract Let V gr be a variety of superalgebras and let c n gr ( V gr ) , n = 1 , 2 , … , be its sequence of graded codimensions. Such a sequence is polynomially bounded if and only if V gr does not contain a list of five superalgebras consisting of a commutative superalgebra, the infinite dimensional Grassmann algebra and the algebra of 2 × 2 upper triangular matrices with trivial and natural Z 2 -gradings. In this paper we completely classify all subvarieties of the varieties generated by these five superalgebras, by giving a complete list of finite dimensional generating superalgebras.
Triple planes with $p_g=q=0$

We show that general triple planes with p_g=q=0 belong to at most 12 families, that we call surfaces of type I,..., XII, and we prove that the corresponding Tschirnhausen bundle is direct sum of two line bundles in cases I, II, III, whereas is a rank 2 Steiner bundle in the remaining cases. We also provide existence results and explicit constructions for surfaces of type I,..., VII, recovering all classical examples and discovering several new ones. In particular, triple planes of type VII provide counterexamples to a wrong claim made in 1942 by Bronowski.
On multiples of divisors associated to Veronese embeddings with defective secant variety

In this note we consider multiples aD, where D is a divisor of the blow-up of P^n along points in general position which appears in the Alexander and Hirschowitz list of Veronese embeddings having defective secant varieties. In particular we show that there is such a D with h^1(X,D) > 0 and h^1(X,2D) = 0.
New antitrichomonal drug-like chemicals selected by bond (edge)-based TOMOCOMD-CARDD descriptors.

Bond-based quadratic indices, new TOMOCOMD-CARDD molecular descriptors, and linear discriminant analysis (LDA) were used to discover novel lead trichomonacidals. The obtained LDA-based quantitative structure-activity relationships (QSAR) models, using nonstochastic and stochastic indices, were able to classify correctly 87.91% (87.50%) and 89.01% (84.38%) of the chemicals in training (test) sets, respectively. They showed large Matthews correlation coefficients of 0.75 (0.71) and 0.78 (0.65) for the training (test) sets, correspondingly. Anche nel 2020-21, pur nelle difficili circostanze determinate per il secondo anno consecutivo dalla pandemia da Covid-19, sono state condotte in Sicilia le prove della Rete nazionale di confronto varietale di frumento duro. I campi sperimentali sono stati allestiti in 5 ambienti siciliani. La sperimentazione ha riguardato 30 varieta’, di cui ben 9 al primo anno di valutazione. I risultati produttivi riscontrati nelle diverse localita’ appaiono molto differenti e fortemente influenzati dall’andamento meteorologico verificatosi nelle diverse zone dell’Isola. Nonostante le difficoltà operative dovute alla pandemia da Covid-19, anche nel corso del 2019-20 sono state condotte in Sicilia le prove di confronto varietale di frumento duro, allestite in 5 località della Sicilia: Libertinia (Catania), Catania, S. Stefano Quisquina (Agrigento), Caltagirone (Catania) e Ciminna (Palermo). La sperimentazione ha riguardato 30 varietà, di cui 5 al primo anno di valutazione, 9 cultivar al secondo anno di prova e 16 genotipi testati da oltre due anni. Grano duro biologico: i consigli varietali.

Nell’annata agraria 2018-19, per il 17° anno consecutivo, sono state effettuate prove collegiali di confronto tra varietà di frumento duro in coltura biologica, in collaborazione con diverse Istituzioni. Le prove sono state realizzate in 7 località, dislocate in 6 regioni del Centro-Sud (Sicilia, Sardegna, Puglia, Toscana e Marche), utilizzando uno schema sperimentale a blocchi randomizzati con 3 o 4 ripetizioni. In tutti i campi sono state messe a confronto le stesse 19 varietà, fornite non conciate dalle ditte sementiere.A livello produttivo le varietà Emilio Lepido, Iride e Antalis hanno fornito i migliori risultati, mentre le varietà Aureo e Furio Camillo sono risultate, rispettivamente…

Nelle prove del 17° anno di sperimentazione varietale nazionale sul frumento duro in coltivazione biologica, tra le 19 varietà valutate in 7 campi di prova sono da evidenziare i risultati delle varietà Antalis ed Egeo che alla buona e stabile produzione hanno associato anche un tenore proteico e un peso ettolitrico superiori alle medie.
