Effects on Arterial Blood Pressure of the Methanol and Dichloromethanol Extracts from Schinus molle L. in Rats
1996
The effects on arterial blood pressure of the methanol and dichloromethanol extracts from Schinus molle L. were analysed in urethane anaesthetized rats. In normotensive rats, the mean arterial blood pressure was significantly reduced by the i.v. administration of both extracts. The dichloromethanol extract inhibited the effects of noradrenaline on arterial blood pressure in the anaesthetized rat and it reduced the maximal contractile effect (Emax) induced by noradrenaline on rat vas deferens in the organ bath. However, the methanol extract did not modify the effects of noradrenaline in the evaluated tests.
Inhibition of neuroeffector transmission in human vas deferens by sildenafil
2000
Sildenafil (0.1 - 30 microM), a cyclic GMP phosphodiesterase 5 (PDE 5) inhibitor, induced inhibition of electrically evoked contractions of ring segments of human vas deferens from 34 vasectomies. Zaprinast (0.1 - 100 microM), another PDE 5 inhibitor, and the nitric oxide (NO) donor sodium nitroprusside (SNP) (0.1 - 100 microM) had no effect on neurogenic contractions. The inhibition induced by sildenafil was not modified by the inhibitor of guanylate cyclase 1H-[1,2,4]oxadiazolo[4,3-a]quinoxaline-1-one (ODQ) (1 - 30 microM) but it was abolished by the K(+) channel blockers tetraethylammonium (TEA, 1 mM), iberiotoxin (0.1 microM) and charybdotoxin (0.1 microM). Sildenafil, zaprinast and SNP…
Globularia alypumL. extracts reduced histamine and serotonin contractionin vitro
2002
The present study analyses in in vitro models the pharmacological activity of methanol and dichloromethane extracts (1, 10 and 100 microg/mL) obtained from the leaves and stems of Globularia alypum L. Preincubation of the guinea-pig ileum and rat uterus with both extracts produced a dose dependent abolition of the contractile effects of histamine and serotonin, respectively. At the same doses, neither methanol nor dichloromethane extract reduced the contractile effects of acetylcholine on rat duodenum or noradrenaline on rat vas deferens.
Changes in the motility patterns of spermatozoa from the rabbit epididymis as assessed by computer-aided sperm motion analysis
1996
Sperm maturation in the epididymis includes changes in their potential for motility that enables spermatozoa to reach the egg and penetrate its investments. The motility characteristics of spermatozoa from the testis, the epididymis, and vas deferens of the rabbit were investigated by computer-assisted sperm analysis (CASA). Various forms of motility were displayed by sperm from different regions of the epididymis released into incubation medium. Testicular sperm were motile, although nonprogressive. The maximum percentage motility was expressed by sperm in the proximal cauda epididymidis, and forward progression was developed by spermatozoa from the distal caput. Once forward progression w…
Sperm morphological abnormalities appearing in the male rabbit reproductive tract
1996
The role of the excurrent duct system in producing and/or eliminating morphologically abnormal spermatozoa may modify the semen parameters and interfere with sperm fertilizing capacity. To study this process, changes in the morphology of spermatozoa during their transit through the reproductive tract in sexually mature rabbits were investigated. The incidence of head, midpiece and tail abnormalities as well as of multiple defects in a single spermatozoon, and the position of the cytoplasmic droplet along the sperm midpiece were evaluated in samples from the testis, 6 regions of the epididymis and the vas deferens. Spermatozoa were characterized by rapid migration of the cytoplasmic droplet …
Effect of Cetrorelix on sperm morphology during migration through the epididymis in the cynomolgus macaque (Macaca fascicularis)
2000
The importance of the cynomolgus monkey as a model for human reproductive medicine prompted this examination of epididymal sperm morphology. Computer-aided sperm morphological analysis was used for the first time to provide morphometric data on sperm heads as they traversed the epididymal duct of Macaca fascicularis. The duct was divided into six regions, starting close to the testis (proximal) and ending close to the vas deferens (distal). To determine the androgen-dependence of the changes, one group of animals received a GnRH-antagonist (Cetrorelix, Asta Medica, Frankfurt, Germany) to induce testicular regression and lower epididymal androgens, while a control group received only vehicle…
ChemInform Abstract: Regioisomeric 5(3)-Aminomethyl-3(5)-phenylisoxazoles: Synthesis, Spectroscopic Discrimination, and Muscarinic Activity.
2010
The regioselective synthesis of isomeric 5(3)-aminomethyl-3(5)-phenyl isoxazoles using different methods is described. Spectroscopic data, especially mass spectrometric fragmentation, were used to identify and characterize the regioisomers. The muscarinic activity of these isoxazoles was assayed on isolated guinea-pig ileum and atria as well as on isolated rabbit vas deferens.
