Online measurement of floc size, viscosity, and consistency of cellulose microfibril suspensions with optical coherence tomography

AbstractIn this study, cellulose microfibril (CMF) suspensions were imaged during pipe flow at consistencies of 0.4%, 1.0%, and 1.6% with optical coherence tomography (OCT) to obtain images of the structure and the local velocity of the suspension. The viscosities obtained by combining pressure loss measurement with the OCT velocity data showed typical shear thinning behavior and were in excellent agreement with viscosities obtained with ultrasound velocity profiling. The structural OCT images were used to calculate the radial and the axial floc sizes of the suspension. Influence of Rotor Suspension Anisotropy on Oil Film Instability

A crucial problem of turbomachinery is the oil film instability on increasing the angular speed, which is correlated with the asymmetry of the bearing stiffness matrix and resembles the hysteretic instability somehow. As a beneficial effect is exerted on the latter by the anisotropy of the support stiffness, some favorable effects have been recently found by the author also for the former, whence a systematic analysis has been undertaken. We present in this paper the study and the design of a voltage controlled oscillator (VCO) for an embedded system to diagnose the PEM fuel cell. Some problems related to fuel cells used in the electric vehicle field are the management of its efficiency and the lifetime of its membranes. To do this, the diagnosis using measuring the complex impedance is an important phase. Failure Estimates for SiC Power MOSFETs in Space Electronics

Silicon carbide (SiC) power metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs) are space-ready in terms of typical reliability measures. However, single event burnout (SEB) due to heavy-ion irradiation often occurs at voltages 50% or lower than specified breakdown. Failure rates in space are estimated for burnout of 1200 V devices based on the experimental data for burnout and the expected heavy-ion linear energy transfer (LET) spectrum in space. peerReviewed

A Simple Metaheuristic for the FleetSize and Mix Problem with TimeWindows

This paper presents a powerful new single-parameter metaheuristic to solve the Fleet Size and Mix Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows. The key idea of the new metaheuristic is to perform a random number of random-sized jumps in random order through four well-known local search operators. Computational testing on the 600 large-scale benchmarks of Bräysy et al. (Expert Syst Appl 36(4):8460–8475, 2009) show that the new metaheuristic outperforms previous best approaches, finding 533 new best-known solutions. A powerful route minimization heuristic for the vehicle routing problem with time windows

2009

We suggest an efficient route minimization heuristic for the vehicle routing problem with time windows. The heuristic is based on the ejection pool, powerful insertion and guided local search strategies. Experimental results on the Gehring and Homberger's benchmarks demonstrate that our algorithm outperforms previous approaches and found 18 new best-known solutions.
