We examined the potential role of Doppler myocardial imaging for early detection of systolic dysfunction in patients with systemic amyloidosis (AL) but without evidence of cardiac involvement by standard echocardiography. We identified 42 patients without 2-dimensional echocardiographic or Doppler evidence of cardiac involvement. These patients had normal ventricular wall thickness and normal velocity of the medial mitral annulus. METHODS: Among 209 consecutive patients, those with fQRS were compared with those without fQRS. Usefulness of C-reactive protein and left ventricular function for risk assessment in survivors of acute myocardial infarction.

The additional prognostic information provided by C-reactive protein (CRP) to parameters of left ventricular function in survivors of acute myocardial infarction (AMI) was investigated in 665 patients (326 with ST elevation and 339 with non-ST elevation). Midventricular dyskinesia during clozapine treatment?

This is the case of a young man suffering from schizophrenia and treated with clozapine. He developed acute heart failure associated with pericardial effusion and midventricular dyskinesia with severe systolic dysfunction and left ventricular dilatation at echocardiogram, readily resolved after the suspension of clozapine therapy. The segmental wall motion abnormalities observed at echocardiogram in this case are peculiar and have never been described before. The possible cardiotoxic effects of clozapine have been reported previously in the literature.
