Analogia i canvi morfològic : a propòsit de les formes verbals velaritzades
1995
An important series of verbs of the second conjugation exists in Catalan, characterized by a velar obstruent between the radical and the inflectional affixes. This velar segment, which in modern Catalan acts as an extension of the radical, has a heterogeneous historical origin. In short, in certain cases it stems from the strengthening of the glide of the Latin strong perfects in -UI (where w > gw > g); in others, it is justified by the maintaining of the final consonant of the radical in certain forms of the present in verbs such as dico or stringere (DICO > dic, DICAM > diga ...); in others, finally, it is due to changes of a purely analogical nature. In order to explain the l…
Els derivats d'Esse i Stare en les llengües romàniques
2001
This paper presenta a contrastive analysis of the Romance verbs derived from ESSE and STARE. The lexical and syntactic characteristics of these verbs in Latin and their locative and atributive uses clearly contrast with actual Romance uses. This contrast highlights the variable extension of the verbs derived from STARE assuming the space of those derived from ESSE.One extreme of the clyne is represented by the Hispanic languages (i.e., Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan), which have developed more uses and thus extended further the STARE forms. On the opposite extreme, there is French, which has no STARE uses. In between, there are Occitan, Sardinian, Italian and Romanian, which include some f…
Staging, neurocognition and social functioning in bipolar disorder.
2018
Introduction: Bipolar disorder (BD) is associated with significant neurocognitive and functional impairment, which may progress across stages. The ‘latent stage' of BD remains understudied. This cross-sectional study assessed staging, neurocognition and social functioning among BD patients and their healthy siblings. Methods: Four groups were included: euthymic type I BD patients in the early (n = 25) and late (n = 23) stages, their healthy siblings (latent stage; n = 23) and healthy controls (n = 21). All 92 subjects underwent a comprehensive neuropsychological battery of processing speed, verbal learning/memory, visual memory, working memory, verbal fluency, executive cognition, and motor …

Bridges between people: nonverbal mediation in an intercultural perspective and training proposals
2019
Starting from the meaning of terms prejudices and mediation, the paper will deal with the theme of “intercultural mediation”, discussing aspects that characterize it, focusing on the non-verbal and creative elements. It will than reflect upon the necessary professional skills and on possible trainings through the body-artistic language (focusing on dance-movement therapy methodology), drawing inspiration from training experiences with professionals who face emergency situations within very complex social contexts. Italy receives 89% of the unaccompanied foreign minors arriving in Europe. However, Italy does not have adequate laws in place to initiate life projects and social inclusion which…
Linguistic Prosody and Comprehension of Idioms and Proverbs in Subjects of School Age
2012
Abstract A crucial component of language is represented by the prosodic system because it provides essential elements to speaker about how a sentence should be interpreted or intended (Fodor, 2002). Increasing interest from researchers also relates to the understanding of figurative language (Levorato, & Cacciari, 2002). In the figures of speech that the speaker wants the listener intends something more or different than what is explicitly stated (Glucksberg, 2001). In particular, prosodic intonation is crucial in the resolution of syntactic ambiguity and structural features that constitute the complex messages, such as idioms and proverbs. A crucial component of language, therefore, is rep…

Perceived differences between natural and convolution reverberation types in 5.0 surround sound
2011
This Graduate Thesis investigates the perceived differences between natural and convolution reverberation in surround sound. Two spaces with distinct reverberation times were used for this study. Initially three musical excerpts from three instruments (Cello, Oboe, and Piano) were recorded in a dry studio environment. Then the Impulse Response (IR) of the spaces was captured using two methods: balloon burst and sine sweep. The dry excerpts were then recorded in the spaces to capture the natural reverberation pattern while the IRs were convolved with them to create the artificial reverberation excerpts. A listening test was then conducted using six perceptual scales to rate these 18 excerpts…
NARRATIVE PRACTICES AND EMERGENT LITERACY: A LABORATORY FOR THE DEVELOPMENT
2015
Teachers begin activities on the written language already in the years when the children attend the kindergarten, in advance of planned systematic intervention in the first year of primary school. The first linguistic, symbolic and pragmatic experiences of a child play a decisive role in the following learning of reading and writing skills, influencing significantly the first textual competences and the motivation to the written code, the rate at which children learn the code and use it in the proper way. Research…

2019
