Background: Reducing the risks and impacts of pesticide use on human health and on the environment is one of the objectives of the European Commission Directive 2009/128/EC in the quest for a sustainable use of pesticides. This Directive, developed through European national plans such as Ecophyto plan in France, promotes the introduction of innovative cropping systems relying, for example, on integrated pest management. Sorption and diffusion properties of volatile phenols into cork

International audience; The sorption and diffusion properties of seven common volatile phenols in hydro-alcoholic medium placed in contact with natural cork were investigated to determine the influence of cork closures on the concentration of these compounds in wine. Weighted cork samples were immersed in model wine solutions containing selected concentrations of each compound and were sampled over time. Sorption coefficients ranged between 125 and 306 mg of aroma compound per kg of cork, while diffusion coefficients varied from 0.8 to 4.1 × 10−11 m2/s. Tear production and intraocular pressure values in clinically normal eyes of whooper swans (<i>Cygnus cygnus</i>)

The objective of this study was to determine the normal range of tear production and values of intraocular pressure (IOP) in clinically normal eyes of whooper swans (Cygnus cygnus). A total of 86 birds: 81 cygnets (6-10 weeks old) and 5 moulting - adult swans (3-6 years old) were examined in this study. Both eyes of all birds underwent a complete ophthalmic examination, including evaluation of tear production with the phenol red thread test (PRTT) and the assessment of the IOP by rebound tonometry, employing the TonoVet® device. International audience; Oxidation of omega-3 fatty acids is a major limitation on its enrichment in food and beverages. An efficient and simple method to monitor lipid oxidation in complex systems is essential to limit lipid oxidation during formulation and processing. Fish oil-in-water emulsions (20% v/v) were exposed to iron or free radical initiated oxidation. Conjugated dienes (CDs) were rapidly measured using a previously developed fat extraction method.
