Gas—liquid chromatographic analyses

1984

Abstract The gas chromatography (GC) of n -alkyl acetates (CH 3 COOR), chloroacetates (CH 2 ClCOOR), dichloroacetates (CHCl 2 COOR) and trichloroacetates (CCl 3 COOR), where the alcohol chain length (R) varied between 1 and 8, and certain of their monochlorinated derivatives, 176 compounds altogether, has been studied on SE-30 and OV-351 glass capillary columns under the same operating conditions. The isomeric monochlorinated esters are eluted in direct order from the 1- chloro to the ω-chloro isomer, the separation of the isomers being complete on OV- 351. On SE-30, however, the peaks of the 6- and 7-chlorooctyl esters are partly overlapped. The separation of the mixtures of odd- and e…

Karplus-Type Dependence of Vicinal119Sn-13C and119Sn-1H Spin-Spin Couplings in Organotin(IV) Derivatives: A DFT Study

2009

The empirical Karplus-type dependence of (3)J((119)Sn,(13)C) and (3)J((119)Sn,(1)H) couplings in organotin(IV) derivatives has been computationally validated by DFT methods both at the nonrelativistic and scalar ZORA relativistic level. A preliminary calibration of the computational protocols, by comparing experimental and calculated couplings for a Set Of Suitable rigid molecules, revealed their high predictive power: in particular, relativistic results for (3)J((119)Sn,(13)C) have a mean absolute error of just above 2 Hz, over a range of values up to about 70 Hz. The latter protocol has then been used to study in detail the influence of substituents and multiple paths connecting the coupl…

A DFT study of the Karplus-type dependence of vicinal 3J(Sn-C-X- C), X=N,O,S, in organotin(iv) compounds: Application to conformationally flexible sy…

2010

ZORA relativistic and non-relativistic DFT protocols have been used to investigate vicinal coupling constants, (3)J(Sn-C-X-C), in several organotin(iv) compounds, with particular emphasis on cyclic alpha-aminoorganostannanes. The dependence of the coupling constant on the heteroatom X (X = N,O,S) in the coupling path, and, for X = N, its substituents, has been studied in detail. The electron-withdrawing strength of the N-substituents has been found to strongly affect the magnitude and shape of the Karplus-type curve. The results obtained for the simple model systems, having no or little conformational flexibility, have helped in rationalizing the data concerning real flexible cyclic systems…

1H NMR and IR spectra of methyl dichloropropanoates and butanoates

1981

Abstract Methyl dichloropropanoates and butanoates were synthesized and their 1H NMR and IR spectra were studied. Comparisons were made with the spectral characteristics of corresponding monochlorocompounds. Special attention was given to the elucidation of the characteristic spectral features associated with particular chlorine substitution patterns. The 1H NMR of erythro and threo methyl 2,3-dichlorobutanoates were analyzed using a computer program MAOCON, a modified LAOCOON 3 program. In the spectrum of the threo form the order of the chemical shifts of protons on asymmetric carbons seems to be opposite to that reported in earlier literature. Also vicinal coupling constants J23 were foun…

13C NMR study of some polychloro-isobutane and -isobutene compounds

1984

The 13C chemical shifts and the carbon–proton coupling constants have been determined for some chlorinated isobutane and isobutene compounds. The one-bond coupling constants in isobutane derivatives showed a regular increase with an increasing number of γ-chlorine substituents. The three-bond coupling constant of the methyl carbon decreased from 4.2 to 2.0 Hz as the number of chlorine substituents in the γ-position increased. In the isobutene compounds, the vicinal coupling of C-1 was larger to protons in a group that is trans with respect to a chlorine substituent on C-1 than to those in the corresponding group cis to the chlorine. The vicinal coupling constants between atoms in geminal gr…

Complete Spectral Analysis of the1H NMR 16-Spin System of β-Pinene

1997

The complete analysis of the 1H NMR spectrum of β-pinene, (1S)-(-)-6,6-dimethyl-2-methylenebicyclo[3.1.1]heptane, which is of the ABCDEFGHIJX3Y3 type, is reported and earlier results are corrected. The vicinal coupling constants, 3J(H,H), are compared with the theoretical values calculated by using the Altona and co-workers’ equations for the structure derived by molecular modelling. The results were applied to the conformational analysis of β-pinene. © 1997 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.

Conformation of the galactose ring adopted in solution and in crystalline form as determined by experimental and DFT 1H NMR and single-crystal X-ray …

2003

The solution-state conformations of various galactose derivatives were determined by comparison of the experimental (1)H-(1)H vicinal coupling constants to those calculated using density functional theory (DFT) at the B3LYP/cc-pVTZ//B3LYP/6-31G(d,p) level of theory. The agreement between the experimental and calculated vicinal coupling constants for 1,2:3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-alpha-d-galactopyranose was good, thereby confirming an (O)S(2) skew conformation for it and its derivatives on the basis of their similar observed couplings. Single-crystal X-ray analysis of 1,2:3,4-di-O-isopropylidene-6-O-(3,4,6-tri-O-acetyl-2-deoxy-2-N-phthalimido-beta-d-glucopyranosyl)-alpha-d-galactopyranose and …

A DFT study of the vicinal 3J(119Sn,13C) and 3J(119Sn,1H) coupling constants in trimethyl- and chlorodimethyl-stannyl propanoates.

2013

Abstract We have tested the performance of DFT protocols, both at the Scalar relativistic ZORA and non-relativistic level of theory, for the calculation of the 3 J( 119 Sn, 13 C) and 3 J( 119 Sn, 1 H) vicinal couplings for a series of flexible organotin(IV) derivatives with formula XMe2SnCHRCHR′COOMe (X = Me, Cl; R, R′ = Me, Ph). A satisfactory agreement between experimental and calculated vicinal couplings has been obtained by taking into account the conformational behaviour of the compounds investigated. The protocols used, mainly the relativistic one, were found to give a correct picture of the populations and a sufficiently high overall performance in calculating the vicinal couplings, …

Lateral indirect exchange coupling in a two-dimensional nanostripe array

2002

We observe a lateral indirect exchange coupling in a multistripe system of parallel Fe nanostripes grown by self-organized growth on a vicinal single-crystal W(110) surface. The width and the distance between the stripes of monolayer height were modified via the total amount of deposited Fe. The easy axis of the magnetization lies perpendicular to the stripe edges and in the surface plane, thus resulting in a ferromagnetic dipolar coupling. In addition to the dipolar coupling we observe an antiferromagnetic indirect exchange coupling for the nanostripe system covered by Au. The coupling causes a superferromagnetic phase transition in the nanostripe array.

4,4-Bis(4-methylphenylsulfanyl)-1,1-diphenyl-2-azabuta-1,3-diene

2007

In the title compound, C29H25NS2, both the Cl atoms of the azadiene precursor 4,4-dichloro-1,1-diphenyl-2-azabuta-1,3-diene are replaced by two vicinal S-p-tolyl substituents attached to the terminal C atom of a π-conjugated 2-azabutadiene array. The azadiene chain is planar to within 0.01 Å. One of the phenyl rings seems to be slightly π-conjugated with the azadiene core [dihedral angle 5.1 (2)°].
