Endocrine disrupters: the new players able to affect the epigenome

2015

Epigenetics represents the way by which the environment is able to program the genome; there are three main levels of epigenetic control on genome: DNA methylation, post-translational histone modification and microRNA expression. The term Epigenetics has been widened by NIH to include “both heritable changes in gene activity and expression but also stable, long-term alterations in the transcriptional potential of a cell that are not necessarily heritable.” These changes might be produced mostly by the early life environment and might affect health influencing the susceptibility to develop diseases, from cancer to mental disorder, during the entire life span. The most studied environmental i…

Information Security Risk Assessments following Cybersecurity Breaches : The Mediating Role of Top Management Attention to Cybersecurity

2023

Information Systems (IS) research on managerial response to cybersecurity breaches has largely focused on externally oriented actions such as customer redressal and crisis response. Within the firm itself, a breach may be a symptom of systematic problems, and a narrow, siloed focus on only fixing immediate issues through technical fixes and controls might preclude other managerial actions to ensure future cybersecurity. Towards this end, Information Security Risk Assessments (ISRA) can help surface other vulnerabilities following a breach. While the role of governance in such exercises is emphasized in standards, it is undertheorized in IS research and lacks empirical evidence. We draw on t…

Zewnątrzustrojowa Fala Uderzeniowa (ESW) jako alternatywna metoda wspomagająca terapię porażenia spastycznego mięśni kończyn w wyniku udaru mózgu - p…

2017

Zewnątrzustrojowa fala uderzeniowa (ESW – Extracorporeal Shock Wave) jest czynnikiem fizykalnym, którego zastosowanie kliniczne obserwowane jest w szerokiej gamie zaburzeń chorobowych, szczególnie dysfunkcji narządu ruchu. Obecnie zaobserwować można, iż lista wskazań do zabiegów ESW stale rośnie i obejmuje swym zasięgiem coraz to bardziej odmienne pod względem etiologii i patomechanizmu schorzenia ogólnoustrojowe. Niemniej jednak pamiętać należy, iż potencjalne mechanizmy biologiczne stymulacji ESW, warunkujące korzystne i pożądane efekty terapeutyczne, nie są jednoznacznie wyjaśnione. W świecie nauki w dalszym ciągu obserwowany jest brak niepodważalnych dowodów popartych zaawansowanymi bad…

"The best thing is laughing at our differences" : intercultural couples' views on their relationship and its effects on the construction of identities

2016

Avioli…

The power dance in research interview. Manifesting power and powerless

2013

We examine the power that is manifested between interviewers and interviewees in research interviews. Our empirical examples are drawn from interviews conducted with: (a) a vocational teacher; and (b) a senior researcher. We analysed the manifestations of power both in the course of the interviews and across interviews. We found that power is exercised and distributed diversely and situationally between the interview participants (interviewer and interviewee) during the interviews. It appeared that in a given interview, the interplay between individual backgrounds and the interview setting was connected to the activities through which power was manifested, and that these activities played a…

A Systematic Review of International Clinical Guidelines for Rehabilitation of People With Neurological Conditions: What Recommendations Are Made for…

2019

Background: Upper limb impairment is a common problem for people with neurological disabilities, affecting activity, performance, quality of life, and independence. Accurate, timely assessments are required for effective rehabilitation, and development of novel interventions. International consensus on upper limb assessment is needed to make research findings more meaningful, provide a benchmark for quality in clinical practice, more cost-effective neurorehabilitation and improved outcomes for neurological patients undergoing rehabilitation.Aim: To conduct a systematic review, as part of the output of a European COST Action, to identify what recommendations are made for upper limb assessmen…

Spór o wybory powszechne na stanowiska sędziowskie w amerykańskim dyskursie publicznym w okresie „demokracji jacksonowskiej”

2021

Artykuł przedstawia debatę, jaka odbyła się pomiędzy zwolennikami i przeciwnikami obsadza-nia stanowisk sędziowskich w drodze wyborów powszechnych w Stanach Zjednoczonych w okre-sie tzw.

THE ADMINISTRATIVE JUSTICE IN SPAIN: CURRENT SITUATION AND CHALLENGES

2016

Since the Spanish Constitution of 1978 there has been a full and effective administrative justice. The citizens have the possibility to request a judicial review of decisions taken by the public Administrations, while being either the owners of a subjective right or of a legitimate interest. The interim judicial protection is not limited to the suppression of the act or general provision and the Courts are invested with direct powers to enforce their sentences. However, different problematic issues about the inactivity of the public Administrations and the enforcement of sentences are the new challenges to ensure the administrative justice. To this it must be added that there are problems r…

Periodontitis and alzheimer´s disease

2020

Background Alzheimer's disease (AD), the main cause of dementia in the adult population, is characterized by a progressive loss of cognitive function. It is considered that neuroinflammation plays a fundamental role in its onset and progression. The bacteria present in the disbiotic microbiome generated during the course of periodontitis (PE) are capable of inducing a systemic inflammatory response, exacerbating the production of proinflammatory mediators that have the potential to spread to the systemic circulation. Material and Methods A literature review was made using the databases Scielo, PubMed, EBSCO and key words "Alzheimer disease", "Periodontitis", "Neurodegeneration", "Inflammati…

Book Review: Psicología de la Creatividad. Perspectivas Contemporáneas

2021

This work is the reissue, two decades later, of a book that became a reference for the study of creativity in the Spanish language. The current, renewed, completed and updated editionmaintains the rigor of the previous edition and its direct, personal, and lucid expressive style. The book 'Psicología de la Creatividad. Perspectivas contemporáneas' has an informative character and a scientific basis and offers an analytical approach to the study of creativity from the perspective of psychology, emphasizing the cognitive and motivational dimensions. This is a welcome reissue. It reviews the research literature over the past 12 years and offer an updated version of the state of the art in the …
