Improved limit on the directly measured antiproton lifetime
2017
Continuous monitoring of a cloud of antiprotons stored in a Penning trap for 405 days enables us to set an improved limit on the directly measured antiproton lifetime. From our measurements we extract a storage time of $3.15\times {10}^{8}$ equivalent antiproton-seconds, resulting in a lower lifetime limit of ${\tau }_{\bar{{\rm{p}}}}\gt 10.2\,{\rm{a}}$ with a confidence level of $68 \% $. This result improves the limit on charge-parity-time violation in antiproton decays based on direct observation by a factor of 7.
Searching for New Physics in two-neutrino double beta decay with CUPID
2021
Abstract In the past few years, attention has been drawn to the fact that a precision analysis of two-neutrino double beta decay (2υββ) allows the study of interesting physics cases like the emission of Majoron bosons and possible Lorentz symmetry violation. These processes modify the summed-energy distribution of the two electrons emitted in 2υββ. CUPID is a next-generation experiment aiming to exploit 100Mo-enriched scintillating Li2MoO4 crystals, operating as cryogenic calorimeters. Given the relatively fast half-life of 100Mo 2υββ and the large exposure that can be reached by CUPID, we expect to measure with very high precision the 100Mo 2υββ spectrum shape, reaching great sensitivities…
Pigment binding of photosystem I light-harvesting proteins.
2002
Light-harvesting complexes (LHC) of higher plants are composed of at least 10 different proteins. Despite their pronounced amino acid sequence homology, the LHC of photosystem II show differences in pigment binding that are interpreted in terms of partly different functions. By contrast, there is only scarce knowledge about the pigment composition of LHC of photosystem I, and consequently no concept of potentially different functions of the various LHCI exists. For better insight into this issue, we isolated native LHCI-730 and LHCI-680. Pigment analyses revealed that LHCI-730 binds more chlorophyll and violaxanthin than LHCI-680. For the first time all LHCI complexes are now available in t…
Carotenoid binding sites in LHCIIb
2000
The major light-harvesting complex of photosystem II can be reconstituted in vitro from its bacterially expressed apoprotein with chlorophylls a and b and neoxanthin, violaxanthin, lutein, or zeaxanthin as the only xanthophyll. Reconstitution of these one-carotenoid complexes requires low-stringency conditions during complex formation and isolation. Neoxanthin complexes (containing 30–50% of the all-trans isomer) disintegrate during electrophoresis, exhibit a largely reduced resistance against proteolytic attack; in addition, energy transfer from Chl b to Chl a is easily disrupted at elevated temperature. Complexes reconstituted in the presence of either zeaxanthin or lutein contain nearly …
De-epoxidation of Violaxanthin in Light-harvesting Complex I Proteins
2004
The conversion of violaxanthin (Vx) to zeaxanthin (Zx) in the de-epoxidation reaction of the xanthophyll cycle plays an important role in the protection of chloroplasts against photooxidative damage. Vx is bound to the antenna proteins of both photosystems. In photosystem II, the formation of Zx is essential for the pH-dependent dissipation of excess light energy as heat. The function of Zx in photosystem I is still unclear. In this work we investigated the de-epoxidation characteristics of light-harvesting complex proteins of photosystem I (LHCI) under in vivo and in vitro conditions. Recombinant LHCI (Lhcal-4) proteins were reconstituted with Vx and lutein, and the convertibility of Vx wa…

Measurement of the branching fraction forB±→χc0K±
2004
We present a measurement of the branching fraction of the decay ${B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c0}{K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}$ from a sample of $89\ifmmode\times\else\texttimes\fi{}{10}^{6}$ $B\overline{B}$ pairs collected by the BABAR detector at the SLAC PEP-II asymmetric-energy B factory. The ${\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c0}$ meson is reconstructed through its two-body decays to ${\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{\ensuremath{-}}$ and ${K}^{+}{K}^{\ensuremath{-}}.$ We measure $\mathcal{B}{(B}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}}\stackrel{\ensuremath{\rightarrow}}{}{\ensuremath{\chi}}_{c0}{K}^{\ifmmode\pm\else\textpm\fi{}})\ifmmode\times\e…
Unitarity Triangle from CP invariant quantities
2006
We construct the CKM unitarity triangle from CP invariant quantities, using the coupling constant of weak decays with flavor change from b to u, and the particle - antiparticle mixing probability in the B_s and B_d systems. Also included are new measurements of the coupling V_us in Kaon decays. Of the two solutions, one agrees perfectly with the triangle constructed from CP violating processes in the K and B meson systems. The common solution yields a triangle with an area of J/2 = (1.51 +/- 0.09) x 10^{-5} and a CP violating phase gamma = 63.1^o +/- 4.0^o.

Top quark anomalous tensor couplings in the two-Higgs-doublet models
2013
We compute the one loop right and left anomalous tensor couplings (g(R) and g(L), respectively) for the top quark, in the aligned two-Higgs-doublet model. They are the magnetic-like couplings in the most general parameterization of the tbW vertex. We find that the aligned two-Higgs doublet model, that includes as particular cases some of the most studied extensions of the Higgs sector, introduces new electroweak contribution's and provides theoretical predictions that are very sensitive to both new scalar masses and the neutral scalar mixing angle. For a largo area in the parameters space we obtain significant deviations in both the real and the imaginary parts of the couplings gR and gL, c…
