Study of scintillation light collection, production and propagation in a 4 tonne dual-phase LArTPC

2020

The $3 \times 1 \times 1$ m$^3$ demonstrator is a dual phase liquid argon time projection chamber that has recorded cosmic rays events in 2017 at CERN. The light signal in these detectors is crucial to provide precise timing capabilities. The performances of the photon detection system, composed of five PMTs, are discussed. The collected scintillation and electroluminescence light created by passing particles has been studied in various detector conditions. In particular, the scintillation light production and propagation processes have been analyzed and compared to simulations, improving the understanding of some liquid argon properties.

Tunable source of infrared pulses in gas-filled hollow core capillary

2020

International audience; We report a tunable source that generates pulses in the infrared from an optical parametric amplification in a gas-filled hollow core capillary based on four-wave mixing process, in which the phase matching strongly depends on the gas pressure and the pump. In our case, we have generated pulses from 1 to 1.6 m in the sub-µJ level together with a parametric amplification in the visible.

Evaluation du paysage et politiques publiques: application à l'agglomération de Montbéliard et à la commune de Morez (Franche-Comté)

2011

"If landscape is now part of public action at all scale levels, the effects of this action should be revealed in the landscape itself. We have to look further". This main goal of the "public policies and landscape" research program, initiated in 1998 by the French ministry of environment, encourages the scientific community to Invest both the landscape assessment and public policies research fields. This research aims at bringing a new contribution to this subject, taking into account recent advances and remaining questions. An assessment tool based on standardized and comparable landscape indices is proposed. This approach is based on measures performed on the visible part of the landscape…

Heterostructured metal oxides-ZnO nanorods films prepared by SPPS route for photodegradation applications

2019

Abstract This work presents the first preparation using the Solution Precursor Plasma Spray process of heterostructured films associating ZnO nanorods (NRs) and various metal oxides (CuO, Fe2O3 and Co3O4) by Solution Precursor Plasma Spray process. These CuO/ZnO, Fe2O3/ZnO and Co3O4/ZnO films exhibit hierarchically chocolate sticks-like, dandelion-like or chrysanthemum-like surface morphologies. These heterostructures were confirmed by SEM, XRD, EDS and Raman analyses. The bandgaps of heterostructured films are narrower than that of pure ZnO. The CuO/ZnO film exhibits the highest photocatalytic activity both under UV and visible light irradiation for the degradation of the Orange II dye due…

Quaternary relaxations in sol-gel encapsulated hemoglobin studied via NIR and UV spectroscopy.

2007

In this work, we study the kinetics of the R --T transition in hemoglobin using a combination of near-infrared and near-ultraviolet spectroscopy. We use a sol-gel encapsulation protocol to decelerate the conformational transitions and to avoid spectral perturbations arising from ligand migration and recombination. We monitor two spectroscopic markers: band III in the near-IR, which is a fine probe of the heme pocket conformation, and the tryptophan band in the near-UV, which probes the formation of the Trpbeta37-Aspalpha94 hydrogen bond, characteristic of the T structure, at the critical alpha1beta2 subunit interface. The time evolution of these two bands is monitored after deoxygenation of…

UV–Vis, IR, Raman and theoretical characterization of a novel quinoid oligothiophene molecular material

2003

A quinoid-type oligothiophene, 3 0 ,4 0 -dibutyl-5,5 00 -bis(dicyanomethylene)-5,5 00 -dihidro-2,2 0 :5 0 ,2 00 -terthiophene, which can be viewed as an analog of TCNQ, has been investigated by spectroelectrochemistry and density functional theory calculations, in its neutral and dianionic states. Electrochemical data show that the molecule can be both reduced and oxidized at relatively low potentials. Upon reduction, both experiments and theory agree well with the generation of a dianionic charged species. The model shows that the electronic structure of the dianion is consistent with two anionic dicyanomethylene groups attached to a central terthienyl spine having an aromatic structure. T…

A Highly Active System for the Metal-Free Aerobic Photocyanation of Tertiary Amines with Visible Light: Application to the Synthesis of Tetraponerine…

2015

A highly efficient metal-free catalytic system for the aerobic photocyanation of tertiary amines with visible light is reported. The use of air as terminal oxidant offers an improved safety profile compared with pure oxygen, the used compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) light sources are highly economical, and no halogenated solvents are required. This system not only proves to be effective for a wide variety of trialkylamines, pharmaceuticals, and alkaloids but remarkably also allows the lowest catalyst loading (0.00001 mol% or 0.1 ppm) ever reported for an organic dye. Bruylants reactions and C-alkylation/decyanations were performed on the obtained α-aminonitriles to demonstrate the postfunctio…

Near-UV to red-emitting charged bis-cyclometallated iridium(iii) complexes for light-emitting electrochemical cells

2011

Herein we report a series of charged iridium complexes emitting from near-UV to red using carbene-based N^C: ancillary ligands. Synthesis, photophysical and electrochemical properties of this series are described in detail together with X-ray crystal structures. Density Functional Theory calculations show that the emission originates from the cyclometallated main ligand, in contrast to commonly designed charged complexes using bidentate N^N ancillary ligands, where the emission originates from the ancillary N^N ligand. The radiative process of this series of compounds is characterized by relatively low photoluminescence quantum yields in solution that is ascribed to non-radiative deactivati…

Poor optical stability of molecular dyes when used as absorbers in water-based tissue-simulating phantoms

2019

Biomedical optical systems and models can be easily validated by the use of tissue-simulating phantoms. They can consist of water-based turbid media which often include inks (India ink and molecular dyes) as absorbers. Optical stability of commonly exploited inks under the influence of light, pH changes and the addition of TiO2 and surfactant, was studied. We found that the exposure to ultraviolet and visible light can crucially affect the absorption properties of molecular dyes. On average, absorption peaks decreased by 47.3% in 150 exposure hours. Furthermore, dilution can affect ink’s pH and by that, its decay rate under light exposure. When TiO2 was added to the phantoms, all molecular …
