Abstract The DNA-binding of two salphen-like metal complexes of nickel(II) (1) and zinc(II) (2) was investigated in different ionic strength solutions by absorption spectroscopy. The data analysis allowed us to obtain the values of their extrapolated DNA-binding constant in physiological conditions, with DNA-binding strength in the order Ni > Zn, and to give relative weight to the electrostatic and non-electrostatic contributions to their DNA-interaction.

Ag11(SG)7 : A New Cluster Identified by Mass Spectrometry and Optical Spectroscopy

We report a one-step and high yield synthesis of a red-luminescent silver cluster with the molecular formula, Ag11(SG)7 (SG: glutathionate) via reduction of silver ions by sodium borohydride in the presence of the tripeptide, glutathione (GSH). The as-prepared cluster shows prominent absorption features at 485 and 625 nm in its UV-vis absorption spectrum. Aging of the as-prepared cluster solution led to the disappearance of the 625 nm peak, followed by broadening of the 485 nm peak to give three maxima at ?487, 437, and 393 nm in its absorption spectrum. Pulsating in Unison at Optical and X-Ray Energies: Simultaneous High Time Resolution Observations of the Transitional Millisecond Pulsar PSR J1023+00…

PSR J1023+0038 is the first millisecond pulsar discovered to pulsate in the visible band; such a detection took place when the pulsar was surrounded by an accretion disk and also showed X-ray pulsations. We report on the first high time resolution observational campaign of this transitional pulsar in the disk state, using simultaneous observations in the optical (TNG, NOT, TJO), X-ray (XMM-Newton, NuSTAR, NICER), infrared (GTC) and UV (Swift) bands. Spectral Transmission of the Human Crystalline Lens in Adult and Elderly Persons: Color and Total Transmission of Visible Light

Purpose To experimentally measure the spectral transmission of human crystalline lenses belonging to adult and elderly persons, and to determine the color and total transmission of visible light of such crystalline lenses. Methods The spectral transmission curve of 32 human crystalline lenses was measured using a PerkinElmer 800UV/VIS spectrometer. Total transmission of visible light and the chromatic coordinates of these crystalline lenses were determined from these curves for solar illumination. Spectral transmission of the pig lens: Effect of ultraviolet A+B radiation

Summary Objective To determine the spectral transmission curve of the crystalline lens of the pig. To analyse how this curve changes when the crystalline lens is irradiated with ultraviolet A + B radiation similar to that of the sun. To compare these results with literature data from the human crystalline lens. [EN] An enantioselective photooxidative Mannich reaction of dihydroquinoxalinones with ketones by the merger of organophotoredox and asymmetric organocatalysis is described. This protocol features very mild reaction conditions using simple and cheap catalysts (Eosin Y and (S)-Proline) for the synthesis of chiral quinoxaline derivatives with good to high yields (up to 94%) and excellent enantioselectivities (up to 99% ee).

A highly efficient metal-free catalytic system for the aerobic photocyanation of tertiary amines with visible light is reported. The use of air as terminal oxidant offers an improved safety profile compared with pure oxygen, the used compact fluorescent lamp (CFL) light sources are highly economical, and no halogenated solvents are required. Nontemplate Synthesis of CH3NH3PbBr3 Perovskite Nanoparticles

To date, there is no example in the literature of free, nanometer-sized, organolead halide CH3NH3PbBr3 perovskites. We report here the preparation of 6 nm-sized nanoparticles of this type by a simple and fast method based on the use of an ammonium bromide with a medium-sized chain that keeps the nanoparticles dispersed in a wide range of organic solvents. These nanoparticles can be maintained stable in the solid state as well as in concentrated solutions for more than three months, without requiring a mesoporous material. Electroluminescence and transport properties in amorphous silicon nanostructures

We report the results of a detailed study on the structural, electrical and optical properties of light emitting devices based on amorphous Si nanostructures. Amorphous nanostructures may constitute an interesting system for the monolithic integration of optical and electrical functions in Si ULSI technology. In fact, they exhibit an intense room temperature electroluminescence (EL), with the advantage of being formed at a temperature of 900 °C, while at least 1100 °C is needed for the formation of Si nanocrystals. Quantitative colorimetric analysis of some inorganic salts using digital photography

An analytical imaging approach to the quantitation of dissolved chemical species absorbed in the visible spectral region is reported. The approach uses digital images of a series of standard solutions of the target substance and their processing with appropriate software to assign a numeric value to each standard in terms of color intensity. Such a value is directly proportional to the analyte concentration and allows the construction of a calibration graph.
