In the early 1990s, like in many other countries in sub-Saharan Africa, Senegal was also facing a decrease in the gross school enrolment ratio (GER). Despite the numerous measures taken for increasing GER at lower cost (creation of double shift classes, strengthening of multi-grade classes, creation of training schools which train teachers curriculum in one year instead of four as previously, increased recruitment of assistant teachers, etc.), this decline continued until 1994. The objective of this work is to evaluate the fatigue dependency on the knee extensor muscles length. Exercises varying the type of contraction (isometric and eccentric) and intensity of contraction (maximal and sub-maximal) are performed in order to disrupt the neuromuscular system by different factors of fatigue: central and peripheral. These exercises are performed at two muscular lengths (S and L, corresponding respectively to 40 and 100° of knee flexion). Neuromuscular parameters (maximal torque, muscular twitch, voluntary activation level, electromyographic activity, etc.) are analyzed in pre- and post-fatigue conditions in the type of contraction required by the fatiguing exercise. The aim of this research is to contribute to a better understanding of the initial training of volunteer firefighters, with a particular focus on the process of appropriation of this training, the process of professionalization and the obstacles encountered by this population.Using a mixed-methods approach, 330 volunteer firefighters still in service were interviewed by questionnaire as part of a longitudinal survey, while 42 individuals who had ended their involvement during their initial training were consulted by means of semi-structured interviews.
