Analysis of Solar Energy Resources in Southern Poland for Photovoltaic Applications / Analiza Struktury Zasobów Energii Słonecznej Obszaru Polski Poł…

2013

Abstract The article presents an analysis of the resources and the structure of the solar energy in the area of Southern Poland on the basis of complete meteorological data from the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow in 2009. An analysis attempt of its use for photovoltaic conversion using different modules with different spectral characteristics of absorbers was made. These latest methods for characterizing the structure of solar energy resources such as: distributions throughout the year: sky clearness or cloudiness indexes, the average values of photon energy (APE) and the contents of the useful fraction (UF) of the solar spectrum, are not yet widely known and used as in …

Arrays of Josephson junctions in an environment with vanishing impedance

1999

The Hamiltonian operator for an unbiased array of Josephson junctions with gate voltages is constructed when only Cooper pair tunnelling and charging effects are taken into account. The supercurrent through the system and the pumped current induced by changing the gate voltages periodically are discussed with an emphasis on the inaccuracies in the Cooper pair pumping. Renormalisation of the Hamiltonian operator is used in order to reliably parametrise the effects due to inhomogeneity in the array and non-ideal gating sequences. The relatively simple model yields an explicit, testable prediction based on three experimentally motivated and determinable parameters.

Dynamic spin-triplet order induced by alternating electric fields in superconductor-ferromagnet-superconductor Josephson junctions

2021

Dynamic states offer extended possibilities to control the properties of quantum matter. Recent efforts are focused on studying the ordered states which appear exclusively under the time-dependent drives. Here we demonstrate a class of systems which feature dynamic spin-triplet superconducting order stimulated by the alternating electric field. The effect is based on the interplay of ferromagnetism, interfacial spin-orbital coupling (SOC) and the condensate motion driven by the field, which converts hidden static p-wave order, produced by the joint action of the ferromagnetism and the SOC, into dynamical s-wave equal-spin triplet correlations. We demonstrate that the critical current of Jos…

In vitro power profiles of multifocal simultaneous vision contact lenses.

2013

Abstract Purpose To evaluate the power profile of multifocal contact lenses (CLs) using a new technology based on quantitative deflectometry. Methods The Nimo TR1504 was used to analyze the power distribution of multifocal CLs. The CLs under study were: Air Optix Aqua Multifocal Low, Medium and High Addition and Focus Progressives. Three lenses of each model were considered. Results All multifocal CLs showed a power profile characterized by a change toward more positive power values when aperture sizes become smaller. The near refractive addition of the lenses under study was +2.61 D, +1.44 D, +1.30 D and +0.30 D for the Focus Progressives, the Air Optix Aqua Multifocal High, Medium Add and…

Twist angle determination in liquid crystal displays by location of local adiabatic points

1998

In this work we present a method for the determination of the twist angle of an arbitrary twisted nematic liquid crystal spatial light modulator. The method is based on the location of local adiabatic points, i.e., situations in which the liquid crystal SLM acts only as a rotation device. For these cases, the rotation induced on the polarization of the incident beam is equal to the twist angle. Consequently, the twist angle can be determined with high precision. We show that local adiabatic regime may be achieved in two ways, either by changing the incident beam wavelength, or by applying a voltage to the electrodes of the display. However, the simple model that describes the SLM in the off…

A battery-based, low-noise voltage source.

2010

A highly stable, low-noise voltage source was designed to improve the stability of the electrode bias voltages of a Penning trap. To avoid excess noise and ground loops, the voltage source is completely independent of the public electric network and uses a 12 V car battery to generate output voltages of +/-15 and +/-5 V. First, the dc supply voltage is converted into ac-voltage and gets amplified. Afterwards, the signal is rectified, filtered, and regulated to the desired output value. Each channel can deliver up to 1.5 A. The current as well as the battery voltage and the output voltages can be read out via a universal serial bus (USB) connection for monitoring purposes. With the presented…

Spinmotive force due to motion of magnetic bubble arrays driven by magnetic field gradient

2014

Interaction between local magnetization and conduction electrons is responsible for a variety of phenomena in magnetic materials. It has been recently shown that spin current and associated electric voltage can be induced by magnetization that depends on both time and space. This effect, called spinmotive force, provides for a powerful tool for exploring the dynamics and the nature of magnetic textures, as well as a new source for electromotive force. Here we theoretically demonstrate the generation of electric voltages in magnetic bubble array systems subjected to a magnetic field gradient. It is shown by deriving expressions for the electric voltages that the present system offers a direc…

Electrically Controlled Pumping of Spin Currents in Topological Insulators

2011

Pure spin currents are shown to be generated by an electrically controlled quantum pump applied at the edges of a topological insulator. The electric rather than the more conventional magnetic control offers several advantages and avoids, in particular, the necessity of delicate control of magnetization dynamics over tiny regions. The pump is implemented by pinching the sample at two quantum point contacts and phase modulating two external gate voltages between them. The spin current is generated for the full range of parameters. On the other hand, pumping via amplitude modulation of the inter-boundary couplings generates both charge and spin currents, with a pure charge current appearing o…

Comment on "Dynamics and properties of waves in a modified Noguchi electrical transmission line"

2016

A recent paper [Phys. Rev. E 91, 022925 (2015)PRESCM1539-375510.1103/PhysRevE.91.022925] presents the derivation of the nonlinear equation modeling envelope waves in a specific case of band passed filter discrete nonlinear electrical transmission line (NLTL), called "A modified Noguchi electrical transmission line" according to the authors. Using the reductive perturbation approach in the semidiscrete approximation, they showed that the modulated waves propagating in this NLTL are described by the ordinary nonlinear Schrodinger (NLS) equation. On the basis of their results, the authors claimed that all previous works on the band passed filter NLTL, which considered the vanishing of the dc c…

Conductivity reconstructions using real data from a new planar electrical impedance tomography device

2013

Abstract In this paper, we present results of reconstructions using real data from a new planar electrical impedance tomography device developed at the Institut fur Physik, Johannes Gutenberg Universitat, Mainz, Germany. The prototype consists of a planar sensing head of circular geometry, and it was designed mainly for breast cancer detection. There are 12 large outer electrodes arranged on a ring of radius  cm where the external currents are injected, and a set of 54 point-like high-impedance inner electrodes where the induced voltages are measured. Two direct (i.e. non-iterative) reconstruction algorithms are considered: one is based on a discrete resistor model, and the other one is an …
