Energy calibration and monitoring of the KATRIN experiment

A new high precision voltage divider has been built for monitoring the analysing potential of the KATRIN main spectrometer. In addition a condensed 83mKr calibration source has been set up at the modified 1 eV resolving Mainz spectrometer, our measurements show that energy calibration and monitoring for KATRIN is feasible at the few ppm level.

Ideality factor behavior between the maximum power point and open circuit

The local ideality factor analysis of dark and light I-V curves has been used in the past to study various performance degradation effects in solar cells. Trapping, edge recombination and injection-level-dependent recombination are expressed as “lumps, humps and bumps” in the plots of the local ideality factor over cell voltage (m-V plots). Earlier applications of this differential technique did not correct the plots for the series resistance effect. Thus, the bumps at the higher voltages introduced by some mechanisms were more difficult to quantify. A possible solution is to analyze ISC-VOC curves, but their measurement is not always possible. Electrodynamics of charged dust particles and repulsion force within plane-type electric curtain

Abstract The electrodynamic behaviour of dust particles in the plane-type electric curtain with a standing wave is investigated. The way a trajectory of oscillation of a single dust particle varies as a result of changes in the electrical supply voltage is analysed. The electric curtain is proposed as a generator of charged dust particles.

The Pulsed Electro-Acoustic (PEA) method is the most used technique for space charge detection in solid dielectrics. The methodology is largely employed in the field of High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission and is based on the detection of acoustic waves generated by charges vibration. One of the most common problems arising during the detection is the presence of multiple reflections taking place due to the presence of means discontinuity in the different PEA cell components. The MuPix high voltage monolithic active pixel sensor for the Mu3e experiment

Mu3e is a novel experiment searching for charged lepton flavor violation in the rare decay μ → eee. In order to reduce background by up to 16 orders of magnitude, decay vertex position, decay time and particle momenta have to be measured precisely. A pixel tracker based on 50 μm thin high voltage monolithic active pixel sensors (HV-MAPS) in a magnetic field will deliver precise vertex and momentum information. Test beam results like an excellent efficiency of >99.5% and a time resolution of better than 16.6 ns obtained with the MuPix HV-MAPS chip developed for the Mu3e pixel tracker are presented.

Ultra-stable implanted 83Rb/83mKr electron sources for the energy scale monitoring in the KATRIN experiment

The KATRIN experiment aims at the direct model-independent determination of the average electron neutrino mass via the measurement of the endpoint region of the tritium beta decay spectrum. The electron spectrometer of the MAC-E filter type is used, requiring very high stability of the electric filtering potential. This work proves the feasibility of implanted 83Rb/83mKr calibration electron sources which will be utilised in the additional monitor spectrometer sharing the high voltage with the main spectrometer of KATRIN. MuPix10: First Results from the Final Design

Many years of research and development of High Voltage Monolithic Active Pixel Sensors (HVMAPS) have culminated in the final design for the Mu3e pixel sensor. MuPix10 is a fully monolithic sensor with an active pixel matrix size of $20\times20\,\mathrm{mm}^2$ produced in the $180\,\mathrm{nm}$ HV-CMOS process at TSI Semiconductors. The pixel size is $80\times80\,\mathrm{\mu m}^2$. Hits are read out using a column-drain architecture and sent over up to four serial links with up to $1.6\,\left.\mathrm{Gbit}\middle/\mathrm{s}\right.$ each. Overview of HVCMOS pixel sensors

High voltage CMOS (HVCMOS) sensors are presently considered for the use in Mu3e experiment, ATLAS and CLIC. These sensors can be implemented in commercial HVCMOS processes. HVCMOS sensors feature fast charge collection by drift and high radiation tolerance. The sensor element is an n-well/p-type diode. This proceeding-paper gives an overview of HVCMOS projects and the recent results.

Polarization sensitive technique is reported for visualization of eye scattering and birefringent inhomogeneities using digital subtracting of eye images captured by a CCD camera for two orthogonal polarizations of light forming images in the CCD camera. For fast capturing of images the polarization plane of the backscattered light is periodically switched at 90 degrees by an electro-optical PLZT phase plate. This plate is placed close to the CCD camera together with a sheet polarizer inserted between camera and the phase plate. <title>Low-frequency excitation of double quantum dots</title>

We address theoretically adiabatic regime of charge transport for a model of two tunnel-coupled quantum dots connected in series. The energy levels of the two dots are harmonically modulated by an external potential with a constant phase shift between the two. Motivated by recent experiments with surface-acoustic-wave excitation, we consider two situations: (a) pure pumping in the absence of external voltage (also at finite temperature), and (b) adiabatic modulation of the current driven by large external bias.
