Electrosynthesis and electrochemistry
2015
Since the pioneering work of Kolbe, electrochemistry and electrosynthetic methods have been a part of the repertoire of the organic synthesis toolbox [1–2]. In general, only electrons are employed as reagents or the reagents are electrochemically regenerated. Consequently, waste can be avoided, and limited resources can be used in a careful and economic manner. Because alternative reaction pathways are employed by electrosynthetic methods, scarce and toxic elements can be replaced or are not required at all [3]. Moreover, in the foreseeable future regenerative sources of electricity, for example, photovoltaics and wind power, will provide a surplus of electricity as the current unsteady sup…
Die aufschlußfreie Bestimmung von Schwermetallen (Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu) in Getränken (Wein) durch inverse Voltammetrie in einer Durchflußzelle
1987
Digestion-free determination of trace-metals (Zn, Cd, Pb, Cu) in beverages by inverse voltammetry in a flow-through cell equipped with a mercury film-electrode is described. Optimal enrichment potentials are obtained by inspection of the pseudopolarograms of the elements in the original diluted sample solution. After the deposition step in the untreated sample solution stripping is effected in a proper supporting electrolyte after medium exchange. Values obtained by this techniques with various samples compare well with those obtained by usual procedures including wet digestion of the samples.
Synthesis, characterisation, and molecular and electronic structure of CpMoCl2(R1C≡CR2) (R1, R2 = Ph, Et, Me): a new class of half-sandwich 17-electr…
2000
International audience; Addition of alkyne to [CpMoCl2]2 affords compounds CpMoCl2(η2-alkyne) (alkyne = EtC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CMe, 1; EtC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CEt, 2; PhC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CMe, 3; PhC[triple bond, length as m-dash]CPh, 4) in good yields. The compounds have been characterised by C,H analyses, IR, EPR and mass spectroscopies, magnetic susceptibility, and cyclic voltammetry. In addition, a single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis has been carried out for compound 4. The alkyne ligand adopts an almost parallel conformation relative to the Cp ring, essentially identical with that of previously reported Nb, Ta, and W analogues. Geometry optimisat…
Cruciform Electron Acceptors Based on Tetraindeno-Fused Spirofluorene
2017
Two cruciform tetraindenospirofluorene-based acceptors embedding carbonyl (Spiro-4O) and dicyanovinylene (Spiro-8CN) functionalities are synthesized in high yields. Single-crystal X-ray analysis reveals a one-dimensional π–π stacking arrangement for Spiro-4O, while Spiro-8CN adopts a unique two-dimensional isotropic π-interaction. Cyclic voltammetry suggests a high electron affinity of −3.76 eV for Spiro-8CN. Such a packing motif and low LUMO energy for Spiro-8CN are important for bulk electron transport.
Anthracene Based Conjugated Polymers: Correlation between π−π-Stacking Ability, Photophysical Properties, Charge Carrier Mobility, and Photovoltaic P…
2010
This article reports on the synthesis, characterization and properties of a series of anthracene−containing poly(p-phenylene-ethynylene)-alt-poly(p-phenylene-vinylene)s (PPE−PPV) copolymers with general constitutional unit (Ph−C≡C−Anthr−C≡C−Ph−CH═CH−Ph−CH═CH−)n denoted AnE-PV. Solely linear (AnE-PVaa, -ad, -ae) and solely branched (AnE-PVbb) as well as mixed linear and branched (AnE-PVab, -ac, -ba, -cc) alkoxy side chains were grafted to the backbone in order to tune the π−π-stacking ability of the materials. It has been possible to establish a correlation between π−π-stacking ability, absorptive behavior, charge carrier mobility, solar cell active layer nanoscale morphology and resulting p…
Characterization of transparent silver loaded poly(l-lactide) films produced by melt-compounding for the sustained release of antimicrobial silver io…
2014
Abstract In the present study, thermally stable silver complexes were produced and incorporated into a poly-( l -lactide) (PLA) matrix by melt-compounding. The effect of the different formulations on the mechanical and color properties was first evaluated. Additionally, the release of silver ions to an aqueous environment was also monitored over time by anodic stripping voltammetry and correlated with the antimicrobial performance against Salmonella enterica. The incorporation of some silver compounds with contents of 1 wt% did not affect the mechanical or optical properties of the films. The films showed a good potential for application in surface treatment and demonstrated a sustainable, …
Inverted Solution Processable OLEDs Using a Metal Oxide as an Electron Injection Contact.
2007
A new type of bottom-emission electroluminescent device is described in which a metal oxide is used as the electron-injecting contact. The preparation of such a device is simple. It consists of the deposition of a thin layer of a metal oxide on top of an indium tin oxide covered glass substrate, followed by the solution processing of the light-emitting layer and subsequently the deposition of a high-workfunction (air-stable) metal anode. This architecture allows for a low-cost electroluminescent device because no rigorous encapsulation is required. Electroluminescence with a high brightness reaching 5700 cd m–2 is observed at voltages as low as 8 V, demonstrating the potential of this new a…
Anodic stripping voltammetric determination of heavy metals in solutions containing humic acids
1994
Various simultaneous effects of humic acids on the current and potential of differential pulse anodic stripping peaks of copper, lead, cadmium and zinc in weakly alkaline and acidic (pH 2) solutions have been investigated and interpreted with regard to metal complexation and the adsorption of humic acid on the mercury electrode. The applicability of the standard additions method for metal quantitation and the experimental conditions for UV-photolysis with a high-pressure mercury lamp have been examined in model as well as real water samples.
Effect of ethylenediamine on the anodic stripping voltammetric determination of heavy metals in the presence of humic acid
1994
Ligand competition coupled with differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry has been investigated for the determination of copper, lead and cadmium. Ethylenediamine displaces humic acid in its metal complexes forming kinetically labile compounds. It also eliminates interferences associated with the oxidation of copper. This enhances the sensitivity of the determination of the metals over a wide range of humic acid concentration (up to 30 mg/l). The procedure has been applied to the determination of heavy metals in a real water sample.
Dinuclear bis(terpyridine)ruthenium(II) complexes by amide coupling of ruthenium amino acids: Synthesis and properties
2011
Abstract Two redox-asymmetric amide-bridged bis(terpyridine)ruthenium(II) complexes (3a, 3b) have been prepared by amide coupling of a carboxylic acid functionalized complex with an amine substituted complex and they were fully characterized by spectroscopic analyses. They emit at 692 and 750 nm at room temperature in fluid solution with quantum yields larger than 10−3 and 3MLCT lifetimes of 22 ns. Ru···Ru distances were estimated from DFT models as 17.7 and 13.4 A for 3a and 3b, respectively. Cyclic voltammetry gives two oxidation potentials for the differently substituted ruthenium sites with splittings of 0.10 and 0.23 V for 3a and 3b, respectively. Oxidation of 3b with CeIV ions gives t…
