Analysis of bacterial communities of infected primary teeth in a Mexican population

2020

Background The objective of this study was to describe the bacterial communities associated with pediatric patients with endodontic infections of temporal teeth by targeting the 16S rRNA gene using pyrosequencing. Material and Methods Microbiological samples were obtained from the lower primary molars of thirteen 13 pediatric patients with dental infections. An aspiration method for microbiological sampling was used. The identification of microbiota employing the pyrosequencing method by targeting the 16S gene was performed. Results Ribosomal 16S RNA gene sequences were amplified, obtaining a total of 16,182 sequences from 13 primary infected molars (13 different individuals) by pyrosequenc…

Cytogenetics in the sacoglossan Oxynoe olivacea (Mollusca: Opisthobranchia): karyotype, chromosome banding and fluorescent in situ hybridization

2000

Developing embryos and sexually mature follicles of the male portion of ovotestis proved to be a suitable material as a source of cleaving cells for advanced cytological investigations on the sacoglossan species Oxynoe olivacea Rafinesque, 1819 (Mollusca: Opisthobranchia). O. olivacea has a diploid chromosomal number of 30 made up of 15 pairs of which six are metacentric/submetacentric (M/SM), four subtelocentric (ST) and five on the borderline between SM and ST. Correspondingly, 15 bivalents occur in spermatocytes at Metaphase I. Constitutive heterochromatin is scarce and restricted to small C-bands seen in five pachytene bivalents. The use of combined silver staining and fluorescent in si…

European Issues, but National Campaigning of German Parties

2021

Germany is a political and economic heavyweight in the European Union and political issues that demand for European solutions rather than national policies, like migration or climate change, gained importance on the German public agenda in recent years. Nonetheless, EP elections regularly have the status of second-order elections when it comes to campaigning efforts as well as voter turnout. In 2019, the election turnout was extraordinarily high, and as this chapter shows, German parties focused on political issues mostly addressing the EU level. Implementing successful Facebook campaigns by initiating user engagement and emphasising issues ‘owned’ by their parties, the Greens and the right…

Potencialidades de Google Maps en la investigación social aplicada

2019

In recent years, Google has devoted resources to build a complete map of the world. They constantly scan the territory, collecting a large amount of data that provides updated and complete geographic information. This allows us to have an interoperable map that provides the end user with a search tool, not only of routes but also of shops, equipment and any type of geo-referenced information. In addition, Google Maps provides a series of Application Programming Interface (API), which provides a library of set of subroutines, functions and procedures (in object-oriented programming) that can be used by other software to automate the extraction of information of the Google platform. Make It or Break It: The Break-Through Rule as a Break-Through for the European Takeover Directive?

2003

The break-through concept is the most recent idea to break the deadlock with respect to EU takeover legislation. As devised by the High-Level Group of Company Law Experts, chaired by the Dutch Jaap Winter, the break-through concept would do away with two of the most important types of impediments to takeovers within EU member states. The first part of the paper explores the break-through concept in some detail, particularly with respect to its premises, its two guiding principles - exclusive shareholder decisionmaking and proportionality, - and the justifications given by the Group for the proposed interventionist rules. The second part of the paper is dedicated to an analysis of the econom…

Efficacy and Safety of Degludec versus Glargine in Type 2 Diabetes.

2017

BACKGROUND Degludec is an ultralong-Acting, once-daily basal insulin that is approved for use in adults, adolescents, and children with diabetes. Previous open-label studies have shown lower day-To-day variability in the glucose-lowering effect and lower rates of hypoglycemia among patients who received degludec than among those who received basal insulin glargine. However, data are lacking on the cardiovascular safety of degludec. METHODS We randomly assigned 7637 patients with type 2 diabetes to receive either insulin degludec (3818 patients) or insulin glargine U100 (3819 patients) once daily between dinner and bedtime in a double-blind, treat-To-Target, event-driven cardiovascular outco…

Stratégies d'influences et politiques de maîtrise de la croissance locale

2010

Over the last ten years, real estate prices have risen considerably and accordingly to most observers, this can at least partly be attributed to an insufficient supply, due to local growth control measures. This thesis tries to understand what motivates local authorities implementing such policies. Local politicians are considered as opportunistic and their decision is modelled as the result of a political struggle between different land-related interests. This game for influence mainly opposes the owners of developed and undeveloped land, who find allies amongst local business interests that might form growth or ideas machines. Our first model describes this struggle under different hypoth…
