Binge eating and psychostimulant addiction.
2021
Many of the various factors, characteristics, and variables involved in the addictive process can determine an individual's vulnerability to develop drug addiction. Hedonic eating, based on pleasure rather than energy needs, modulates the same reward circuits, as do drugs of abuse. According to the last report of the World Health Organization, the worldwide obesity rate has more than doubled since 1980, reaching especially critical levels in children and young people, who are overexposed to high-fat, high-sugar, energy-dense foods. Over the past few decades, there has been an increase in the number of studies focused on how eating disorders can lead to the development of drug addiction and …
Implementation of strategies and tools of sociosanitary coordination in a health department
2018
2018
Different migration processes have been carried out in history, which usually travel in conditions of vulnerability and undermine the dignity of people. Therefore, currently, the migration of unaccompanied minors shakes the receiving society; it is a defenseless population group that is exposed to situations of vulnerability. Unaccompanied immigrant minors and in an irregular situation, whether adolescents, girls or boys, are faced with a dream to improve their lives and those of their families that they left in their country; this is a very dangerous journey where, during the crossing, they are condemned to risk situations and adventures, without the support and safety of their families. T…
Sensitivity Analysis Of Multi-Electrode Arrays For Characterizing The Non-Saturated Zone In Groundwater Vulnerability Assessment
2009
The near-surface environment acts as a filter and buffer for contaminants introduced from the surface by anthropogenic activities. For this reason there is a great need to improve our understanding of the shallow subsurface taking into account the increasing demand for vulnerability maps which illustrates the exposure of aquifers against pollution. These maps are designed to show areas of greatest potential for groundwater contamination on the basis of local subsurface conditions. A shallow, unconfined sand-and-gravel aquifer is highly vulnerable to pollutants because rapid recharge gives little time to contaminants to degrade naturally or be adsorbed before reaching the aquifer. Conversely…
The link between vulnerability and social exclusion and criminal trajectories. An association study
2017
The Transition from Hospital to Home: Older People's Experiences
2015
The amount of older patients who are discharged from hospitals while continuing to need care is increasing in Norway. The transition between different care services has the potential for high rates of medication errors, incomplete or inaccurate information transfer, and lack of appropriate follow-up care. Thus, insight into the transition process is vital to understanding the complexity and vulnerability the patients are exposed to in this process. The aim of this phenomenological hermeneutic study was to describe and illuminate the lived experiences of older home residents during the transitions from hospital to home. Data were collected through narrative interviews, and an interpretation …

Family Issues. Difficulties in Migrant Family Life Exacerbated by the Pandemic.
2022
Most of the time, when we talk about the family, we think of the indigenous family, but what happens when the focus shifts to foreign families? Furthermore, in a time of pandemic, what repercussions and impacts have there been on foreign families? And have the interventions proposed by the government to deal with COVID-19 and to support families, taken foreign families into account? The issue is quite complex because it has to deal, on the one hand, with definitional problems related to the difficulties in identifying types of foreign families (Ambrosini, 2020b) present in Italy, and, on the other hand, with an analysis of the impact that the virus has had on family structures. Migrant fami…
Disaster Resilience and Human Settlements in the Anthropocene
2023
The chapter sets the context starting from the emerging perspectives on disaster resilience and human settlements in the larger context of the proposed new geological era of Anthropocene. It explores the impact of disasters on the human settlements, giving examples and illustrating the theoretical reference framework regarding the birth of the idea of the Anthropocene. The chapter focuses on the interdisci-plinary nature of the ‘disaster resilience and human settlements’ theme in relation to the various global development agendas, including the Expanded Brown Agenda, the Hyogo Framework of Action, the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development,…
NOVEL APPROACHES FOR FLOOD RISK ASSESSMENT USING EXPOSURE-VULNERABILITY MATRICES
