Laparoscopic adrenalectomy for large adrenal masses: Single team experience
2014
Abstract Introduction Laparoscopic adrenalectomy is today considered the standard treatment for benign small adrenal tumors. An open question is the use of laparoscopy for large adrenal masses because of technical limitations and increased risk of malignancy. In this study we report our experience in laparoscopic adrenalectomy for adrenal masses larger than 6 cm. Methods Between January 2010 and December 2013 we performed 41 laparoscopic adrenalectomy. Fourteen of 41 patients (34,1%) were submitted to laparoscopic adrenalectomy for lesion >6 cm in size. All patients were submitted routinely to radiological and hormonal tests to indentify tumors characteristics. Results The patients treated …
Accountability for crimes committed by autonomous weapon systems under international criminal law
2022
With conventional weapons a human is responsible for the target selection and the pulling of the trigger. In contrast to this, AWS themselves are responsible for these tasks. The contemporary framework of International Law regulating this problem focuses on the conventional weapons and the human operator behind them. This thesis is trying to partake in the solution of the following legal problem: if the current International Criminal Law-framework sufficiently regulates accountability for proscribed acts committed by Autonomous Weapon Systems. To achieve this the thesis focuses on the research question: Which individual would be held accountable for proscribed acts committed by Autonomous W…
The minimal cost maximum matching of a graph (supplementary remarks)
1971
In addition to the preceding paper, it will be shown that (1) the matching problem is closely related to the linear assignment problem and how (2) this property can be taken advantage of for solving the matching problem.
Function and Sacrality of Philoctetes' Bow
2019
Is there a need to widely prescribe antibiotics in patients hospitalized with COVID-19?
2021
Highlights • Antibiotics were a main part of COVID-19 treatments during the first epidemic peak. • Bacterial coinfections seem to be rare, especially if no ICU transfer needed. • We studied the place of antibiotics and the impact on prognosis of patients. • Antibiotics were prescribed if more severe infection and has no impact on prognosis. • We think that antibiotic therapy must be not widely prescribed.

Metacarpophalangeal joint of the thumb arthrodesis using intramedullary interlocking screws XMCP™
2018
Abstract The study objective was to assess the results of a thumb metacarpophalangeal joint (MCPJ) arthrodesis using intramedullary interlocking screws at 25°, XMCP ™ (Extremity Medical, Parsippany, NJ). Radiographs evaluated the angle of arthrodesis, time of fusion and fixation of the implant. Clinical and functional outcomes were assessed using the DASH questionnaire and the VAS scale. Any complications found during surgery or the follow-up period were noted. We studied 9 patients. The mean follow-up was 27.6 months. Patients showed clinical and radiological evidence of fusion in an average of 8 weeks, the angle of fusion was 25°. There were no complications and no implant had to be remov…
Complications in Craniovertebral Junction Instrumentation: Hardware Removal Can Be Associated with Long-Lasting Stability. Personal Experience
2017
Background The causes of craniovertebral junction (CVJ) instabilities include trauma, rheumatological diseases, tumors, infections, congenital malformations, and degenerative disease processes; these complex pathologies often require CVJ instrumentation. Hardware complications were analyzed in a personal series of 48 treated patients. In light of the analysis of very unusual radiological and clinical findings, the authors tried to better investigate the related mechanisms and to reach possible useful conclusions. Methods In a series of 48 patients who underwent CVJ instrumentation and fusion procedures in our Institution, we describe three cases of hardware failure, due to: (1) infection; (…
Single-blind randomized clinical trial to evaluate clinical and radiological outcomes after one year of immediate versus delayed implant placement su…
2013
Purpose: To evaluate and compare peri-implant health, marginal bone loss and success of immediate and delayed implant placement for rehabilitation with full-arch fixed prostheses. Material and Methods: The present study was a prospective, randomized, single-blind, clinical preliminary trial. Patients were randomized into two treatment groups. In Group A implants were placed immediately post-extraction and in Group B six months after extraction. The following control time-points were established: one week, six months and twelve months after loading. Measurements were taken of peri-implant crevicular fluid volume, plaque index, gingival retraction, keratinized mucosa, probing depth, modified …
Burkitt's lymphoma : a child s case presenting in the maxilla. Clinical and radiological aspects.
2006
Burkitt´s lymphoma (BL) is a neoplasm which, despite its very aggressive behaviour is potentially curable. It typically affects the paediatric population. BL belongs to the non-Hodgkin lymphomas group, and is the first human tumour undoubtedly related to a viral origin (Epstein-Barr virus). Two main clinical subtypes are recognized: endemic or African type, and sporadic type; HIV associated BL constitutes a third type. Although common in endemic BL, maxillary involvement is rare in sporadic cases. This, together with the clinical lack of specificity associated to this location, makes diagnosis difficult. New chemotherapeutic protocols achieve a high survival rate. Most important prognostic …
