An approach for recommending personalized contents for homecare users in the context of health 2.0

This paper proposes a content recommendation mechanism as part of a model for implementing ubiquitous learning for supporting people with chronic diseases who are treated at home, so that they can learn more about treatments for their disease. In the proposed approach, the learning takes place based on day-to-day activities and real situations. In this case, the model supports the development of tools that can learn about the user's context, based on data obtained via sensors installed on users or in their home, as well as data supplied directly by the user interface of their mobile devices, and data provided by the healthcare team, and, after that, recommend contents about their diseases.

In this paper, we analyze the performance of a wideband sum-of-cisoids (SOC) channel simulator w.r.t. the bit error probability (BEP) of differential phase-shift keying (DPSK) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Analytical BEP expressions are derived for coherent and non- coherent DPSK OFDM simulation systems in the presence of a wideband SOC channel simulator. Aims & methods: The aim of this study was to characterize the methylation level of a polymorphically imprinted gene, VTRNA2-1/nc886, in human populations and somatic tissues.48 datasets, consisting of more than 30 tissues and >30,000 individuals, were used. Results: nc886 methylation status is associated with twin status and ethnic background, but the variation between populations is limited. Monozygotic twin pairs present concordant methylation, whereas similar to 30% of dizygotic twin pairs present discordant methylation in the nc886 locus. Conceptualizing Online Discussion Value: A Multidimensional Framework for Analyzing User Comments on Mass-Media Websites

This chapter provides a micro-framework for analyzing the quantity and quality of online user comments on mass-media websites. On one dimension, news factors of news items and discussion factors of existing user comments are assumed to indicate the relevance of participating in online discussions. On a second dimension, specific motivational, social, and design factors are influential when reconstructing users’ decisions to participate in online discussions and when analyzing the content of online user comments. The two dimensions in combination describe the discussion value of news items. Potential applications of this framework on other forms of interpersonal communication are discussed.

We base the case study on the empirical material of a project that aimed to gather knowledge of the collections of the Finnish Data Processing Museum Association. Natural optical anisotropy of h-BN: Highest giant birefringence in a bulk crystal through the mid-infrared to ultraviolet range

The giant birefringence of layered h-BN was demonstrated by analyzing the interference patterns in reflectance and transmittance measurements in the mid-infrared to the deep ultraviolet energy range. The refractive index for polarization perpendicular to the c axis is much higher than the refractive index for polarization parallel to the c axis, and it displays a strong increase in the ultraviolet range that is attributed to the huge excitonic effects arising from the unique electronic structure of h-BN. Thus, h-BN is shown to exhibit a giant negative birefringence that ranges from -0.7 in the visible to -2 in the deep ultraviolet close to the band gap. The electronic dielectric constants f…
