Matters of scale: positive allometry and the evolution of male dimorphisms
2005
J.L.T. was funded by a Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council research fellowship, J.S.K. by the Academy of Finland, and N.R.L. by a Natural Environment Research Council research fellowship. The developmental independence of alternative phenotypes is key to evolutionary theories of phenotypic plasticity and the origins of diversity. Male dimorphisms associated with alternative reproductive tactics are widely cited examples of such facultative expression of divergent fitness optima. Current models for the evolution of male dimorphisms invoke a size-dependent threshold at which the phenotype is reprogrammed. We use predictions derived from allometric modeling to test for the e…
Crystal growth, structure, magnetic properties and theoretical exchange interaction calculations of Cu2MnBO5
2016
Single crystals of ludwigite Cu2MnBO5 were synthesized by flux growth technique. The detailed structural and magnetic characterizations of the synthesized samples have been carried out. The cations composition of the studied crystal was determined using X-ray diffraction and EXAFS technique, the resulting composition differ from the content of the initial Mn2O3–CuO components of the flux. Magnetic susceptibility measurements and the calculations of the exchange integrals in frameworks of indirect coupling model revealed that monoclinic distortions strongly affect exchange interactions and appearance of magnetic ordering phase at the temperature T=93 K. The hypothesis of the existence of sev…
Silence of Binary Kerr Black Holes
2020
A nontrivial S matrix generally implies a production of entanglement: starting with an incoming pure state, the scattering generally returns an outgoing state with nonvanishing entanglement entropy. It is then interesting to ask if there exists a nontrivial S matrix that generates no entanglement. In this Letter, we argue that the answer is the S-matrix for the scattering of classical black holes. We study the spin entanglement in the scattering of arbitrary spinning particles. Augmenting the S-matrix with Thomas–Wigner rotation factors, we derive the entanglement entropy from the gravitational induced 2→2 amplitude. In the Eikonal limit, we find that the relative entanglement entropy, defi…
Integrating Cross-Dominance Adaptation in Multi-objective Memetic Algorithms
2008
This chapter proposes a novel adaptive memetic approach for solving multi-objective optimization problems. The proposed approach introduces the novel concept of crossdominance and employs this concept within a novel probabilistic scheme which makes use of the Wigner distribution for performing coordination of the local search. Thus, two local searchers are integrated within an evolutionary framework which resorts to an evolutionary algorithm previously proposed in literature for solving multi-objective problems. These two local searchers are a multi-objective version of simulated annealing and a novel multi-objective implementation of the Rosenbrock algorithm.

Ms. 930a, Nr. 8, Bl. 22r-23v Böttiger, Karl August. Brief an Garlieb H. Merkel, Weimar, d[en] 13.

Unconditional generation of bright coherent non-Gaussian light from exciton-polariton condensates
2012
Exciton-polariton condensates are considered as a deterministic source of bright, coherent non-Gaussian light. Exciton-polariton condensates emit coherent light via the photoluminescence through the microcavity mirrors due to the spontaneous formation of coherence. Unlike conventional lasers which emit coherent Gaussian light, polaritons possess a natural nonlinearity due to the interaction of the excitonic component. This produces light with a negative component to the Wigner function at steady-state operation when the phase is stabilized via a suitable method such as injection locking. In contrast to many other proposals for sources of non-Gaussian light, in our case, the light typically …

We observe the Hong-Ou-Mandel interference via homodyne tomography on two photons extracted from two quantum memories.
Vortex localization in rotating clouds of bosons and fermions
2006
Finite quantal systems at high angular momenta may exhibit vortex formation and localization. These phenomena occur independent of the statistics of the repulsively interacting particles, which may be of bosonic or fermionic nature. We analyze the relation between vortex localization and formation of stable Wigner molecules at high angular momenta in the view of particle-hole duality.Trial wave functions for the vortex states and the corresponding fermion-boson relations are discussed.
Proposal of a Computational Approach for Simulating Thermal Bosonic Fields in Phase Space
2019
When a quantum field is in contact with a thermal bath, the vacuum state of the field may be generalized to a thermal vacuum state, which takes into account the thermal noise. In thermo field dynamics, this is realized by doubling the dimensionality of the Fock space of the system. Interestingly, the representation of thermal noise by means of an augmented space is also found in a distinctly different approach based on the Wigner transform of both the field operators and density matrix, which we pursue here. Specifically, the thermal noise is introduced by augmenting the classical-like Wigner phase space by means of Nosé
