Microsomal activation of dibenzo[def, mno]chrysene (anthanthrene), a hexacyclic aromatic hydrocarbon without a bay-region, to mutagenic metabolites.

2002

Metabolically formed dihydrodiol epoxides in the bay-region of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are thought to be responsible for the genotoxic properties of these environmental pollutants. The hexacyclic aromatic hydrocarbon dibenzo[def, mno]chrysene (anthanthrene), although lacking this structural feature, was found to exhibit considerable bacterial mutagenicity in histidine-dependent strains TA97, TA98, TA100, and TA104 of S. typhimurium in the range of 18-40 his(+)-revertant colonies/nmol after metabolic activation with the hepatic postmitochondrial fraction of Sprague-Dawley rats treated with Aroclor 1254. This mutagenic effect amounted to 44-84% of the values determined with benzo[a]py…

Diurnal variation of corticotropin-releasing factor binding sites in the rat brain and pituitary.

1996

1. Corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) is thought to be involved in the regulation of the diurnal activity of the hypothalamus-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and to act as a neurotransmitter in the brain. To date it is unknown whether the binding sites of the central CRF system are subject to diurnal variations. 2. We measured the number of CRF binding sites over the course of a complete 24-hr light-dark cycle in the pituitary, amygdala, bed nucleus of the stria terminalis (BNST), cingulate cortex, visceral cortex, paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus, hippocampus, and locus ceruleus of rats by in vitro receptor autoradiography with iodinated ovine CRF. A 24-hr time course was also es…

Educating reflective Enterprise Systems practitioners: a design research study of the iterative building of a teaching framework

2013

This research paper reports on the iterative design of a teaching framework developed for teaching Enterprise Systems ES classes for Information Systems IS graduates. These systems embed technical complexity and create organizational challenges when implemented in organizations. Therefore, teaching good ES classes is pedagogically challenging for faculty, and ES curricula are difficult for students. We have gradually designed and rebuilt curricula and teaching frameworks over 8years. This has also resulted in a set of eight design principles. We report from our design and evaluation process and present our final artefact, the teaching framework. The aim is to educate reflective practitioner…

The effectiveness of office information systems: a social action perspective

1991

. The purpose of this paper is to show that a number of basic issues have not been adequately addressed in existing office information systems research. Prominent among these are the nature and role of offices, the goals of office information systems development, and the nature of its organizational and managerial consequences. It is proposed that office information systems should be analysed as social action systems the behaviour of which is strongly affected by socially determined forces and constraints such as the behaviour-channelling influences of authority, norms, customs, habits and precedence. Four types of social action are discussed: instrumental, strategic, communicative and disc…

Knowledge Creation - A Perspective on the Development of Design Principles

2020

In this paper we reflect on and conceptualize on the development of design principles in a design process. We use the concept of ba to describe how design principles can be created when involving users, domain experts, designers and researchers in the design process. The study applies action design research (ADR) to design and develop a self-reflective career support tool for persons with intellectual disabilities (ID). We have applied processes of knowledge creation and their corresponding ba, the originating ba, the interacting ba, the systemizing ba and the exercising ba to conceptualize the development of design principles. Preliminary findings imply that a structured process of knowled…

Teaching and learning in consumer behavior: a class activity supporting real decision-making in cultural management

2010

Abstract Problem-based learning has been suggested as a useful tool to foster student-centered learning and increase student motivation. Students of Business Administration are not familiar with Research on Consumer Behavior, its contents and techniques, since this subject is traditionally linked to Psychology. In order to facilitate the teaching-learning process in this subject, this paper presents an application of problem-based learning in the context of Consumer Behavior. Results of this pilot experience are assessed under a qualitative and a quantitative basis. The evidence obtained allow us to conclude that this collaboration project enable students to obtain and to process informatio…

Factors affecting Nigerian teacher educators’ technology integration : Considering characteristics, knowledge constructs, ICT practices and beliefs

2020

To provide a diverse comprehension of teachers' TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, and Content Knowledge) and how TPACK is reflected in practice, this study examined teacher educators' (TEs') conceptions of technology integration. Specifically, the main objective of the study was to investigate the factors influencing Nigerian teacher educators' technology integration using a self-completion survey administered to Nigerian teacher educators from three schools in the southern region of Nigeria. We utilized the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) approach for the data analysis. Two frameworks—TPACK and Second Information Technology in Education Study (SITES)— guided t…

Rough Search of Vague Knowledge

2017

This chapter presents the theoretical basis of the vague knowledge search algorithmization of a rough method. It introduces some data granulation method which aggregates this data as rough sets of data or ways to search this data in the semantic networks. As a result of this method is the possibility of the rough sets description, analogically to sets in the classical theory of sets. We try to answer the question how the agent searching some knowledge can conceive the search of vague knowledge in the semantic networks: (1) if it can, accordingly to the semantic and the conceiving rules, describe the relationships between nodes in this semantic network which are identified as ways of searchi…
