An analytical model to evaluate the radiated power spectrum of a multipactor discharge in a parallel-plate region
2008
This paper is aimed at studying the electromagnetic radiation pattern of a multipactor discharge occurring in a parallel-plate waveguide. The proposed method is based on the Fourier expansion of the multipactor current in terms of time-harmonic currents radiating in the parallel-plate region. Classical radiation theory combined with the frequency domain Green's function of the problem allows the calculation of both the electric and the magnetic radiated fields. A novel analytical formula for the total radiated power of each multipactor harmonic has been derived. This formula is suitable for predicting multipactor with the third-harmonic technique. The proposed formulation has been successfu…
Dual-polarization-pump CW laser operation in Nd3+:LiNbO3 channel waveguides fabricated by reverse proton exchange
2008
Abstract In this work, continuous-wave laser action at 1084.5 nm at room temperature in LiNbO 3 :Nd 3+ channel waveguides, fabricated by reverse proton exchange (RPE), is reported. The sample was pumped at λ = 808 nm in either σ or π-polarized configurations, TE- and TM-pumping schemes, being the laser emission π-polarized at all power levels. The laser characteristics, as function of the pumping scheme (TE or TM), have been obtained. In both cases, the laser emission was stable, without any reduction in the output power even under continuous pump operation at maximum power at room temperature, indicating high resistance to photorefractive damage.
Exploring titanium dioxide as a new photonic platform
2019
International audience; We report the development of titanium dioxide-based waveguides for applications in the near-and mid-infrared. Thanks to embedded metal grating couplers, we demonstrate error free 10 Gbit/s optical transmissions at 1.55 and 2 µm. We also demonstrate octave-spanning supercontinuum in cm-long waveguides. We explore the way to improve such waveguides through optimized fabrication process.
Design of a High-Efficiency Ka-Band TWT Power Amplifier for Radar Applications
2022
The design of a high-efficiency Traveling Wave Tube (TWT) based on a non-conventional folded waveguide slow-wave structure (FW-SWS) operating over 34-36 GHz for naval and ground Ka-band radars is presented. The ridge vane-loaded FW structure allows a good compromise between high interaction impedance and wide bandwidth along with a low weight required for aircraft radar applications and a simple planar manufacturing process structure. Small signal simulations are performed with a custom interaction impedance evaluation program. The CST suite 2021 3D electromagnetic simulation code is used for the prediction of the dispersion diagram. Starting from a sensitivity analysis of the folded wavegu…
Ion implantation effects in BaTiO3 single crystals
1991
Abstract Thermally controlled helium implantation has been used to produce planar waveguides in BaTiO3 without noticeable depoling effects in the samples. Profiles for the ordinary and extraordinary refractive index are deduced from optical mode measurements. No annealing procedure is required. We report the effects of different ion fluences and energies in the MeV range on the waveguide properties.
Non-reflecting boundary conditions for acoustic propagation in ducts with acoustic treatment and mean flow
2011
We consider a time-harmonic acoustic scattering problem in a 2D infinite waveguide with walls covered with an absorbing material, in the presence of a mean flow assumed uniform far from the source. To make this problem suitable for a finite element analysis, the infinite domain is truncated. This paper concerns the derivation of a non-reflecting boundary condition on the artificial boundary by means of a Dirichlet-to-Neumann (DtN) map based on a modal decomposition. Compared with the hard-walled guide case, several difficulties are raised by the presence of both the liner and the mean flow. In particular, acoustic modes are no longer orthogonal and behave asymptotically like the modes of a …
FILTER RESPONSE OF RESONANT WAVEGUIDE DIELECTRIC GRATINGS AT PLANE-WAVE CONICAL INCIDENCE
2009
An accurate and efficient formulation is presented for the electromagnetic analysis of dielectric waveguide gratings under plane-wave conical incidence. An arbitrary number of dielectric bars can be placed inside each one-dimension periodic cell, including the effect of dielectric losses. The reflectance of a dielectric waveguide grating under conical incidence is compared with theoretical results presented by other authors, finding a very good agreement. A single-layer reflection filter has been designed centered at λ0=1.5 μm whose spectral and angular responses are shown. For this structure, the effect of the asymmetry of the distribution of the refraction index in the reflectance has bee…
MWP phase shifters integrated in PbS-SU8 waveguides
2015
[EN] We present new kind of microwave phase shifters (MPS) based on dispersion of PbS colloidal quantum dots (QDs) in commercially available photoresist SU8 after a ligand exchange process. Ridge PbS-SU8 waveguides are implemented by integration of the nanocomposite in a silicon platform. When these waveguides are pumped at wavelengths below the band-gap of the PbS QDs, a phase shift in an optically conveyed (at 1550 nm) microwave signal is produced. The strong light confinement produced in the ridge waveguides allows an improvement of the phase shift as compared to the case of planar structures. Moreover, a novel ridge bilayer waveguide composed by a PbS-SU8 nanocomposite and a SU8 passive…
Polymer/Perovskite Amplifying Waveguides for Active Hybrid Silicon Photonics
2015
The emission properties of hybrid halide perovskites are exploited to implement a stable and very low power operation waveguide optical amplifier integrated in a silicon platform. By optimizing its design with a poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) encapsulation, this novel photonic device presents a net gain of around 10 dB cm−1 and 3–4 nm linewidth with an energy threshold as low as 2 nJ pulse−1 and exhibiting no degradation after one year. This work was supported by Generalitat Valenciana (Project No. ISIC/2012/008), the Universitat Jaume I (Project No. 12I361.01/1), Spanish MINECO (Projects Nos. Optimization of semiconductor halide perovskite layers to implement waveguide amplifiers
2017
Semiconductor organometallic halide (CH 3 NH 3 PbX 3 , X=Cl, Br, I) perovskites (HPVK) have been emerged as a potential gain media to construct a new generation of active photonic devices. Indeed, during the last three years a significant effort has been carried out to implement HPVK-based optical amplifiers or lasers with improved quality factors. In particular, minimization of the threshold of stimulated emission has been an important concern to decrease the power consumption, and hence to enhance the performances of the device. For this purpose strategies include a suitable integration of the semiconductor in a photonic structure, or the optimization of the material. Here we propose a no…
