Who should get COVID-19 vaccine first? A survey to evaluate hospital workers’ opinion

2021

Prospective planning of COVID-19 vaccines allocation will be essential to maximize public health and societal benefits while preserving equity. Decisions about how to allocate limited supplies of vaccines need to be clear about the criteria used in setting priorities, with a specific commitment to transparency and communication. The aim of our study was to think through these competing demands, focusing on the opinion of healthcare workers (HCWs). The primary endpoint of the study was to assess the opinion of all the HCWs in a University based Italian Hospital about the fairest priority order to COVID 19 vaccines and to understand on which criteria the prioritization preferences of HCWs are…

2023

Objective: The study aims to assess the impact of COVID-19 on healthcare workers’ work-related stress during the first wave of the pandemic in Italy. The main objective is to investigate the existence of a positive correlation between hopelessness and burnout, assuming that burnout may be a riskfactor for the development of hopelessness, and to analyze the role thattrait Emotional Intelligence (TEI) and changes in workload could have in this relationship. Furthermore, evaluate any significant differences in burnoutand hopelessness levels in the function of some demographic variables, such as gender, professional profiles, and different working zones of Italy, tobetter understand how the di…

Quantification of exposure to dioxins and furans in a cohort of workers of a herbicide producing plant in hamburg, FRG

1992

Abstract To assess the exposure to PCDD/Fs of a cohort of 1583 workers of a herbicide producing plant in Hamburg, FRG, investigated for cancer mortality, measurements of PCDD/Fs in fat tissue (n=48) or blood (n=64) were analyzed according to work histories in a subgroup of n=112 male workers. In a multiple regression analysis the time of work in the production of 2,4,5-T and 2,4,5-TCP, for the latter especially before 1957, correlated well with the levels of 2378-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD). For most of the higher chlorinated isomers time of work in the thermic decomposition showed the strongest effect. The results confirm that the developed indicators are good proxis for exposure to…

Walking Children Through a Minefield: How Professionals Experience Exploring Adverse Childhood Experiences

2017

Understanding the challenges of professionals in addressing child adversity is key to improving the detection, protection, and care of exposed children. We aimed to synthesize findings from qualitative studies of professionals’ lived experience of addressing child adversity. Through a systematic search, we identified eight qualitative studies and synthesized them using metaethnography. We generated three themes, “feeling inadequate,” “fear of making it worse,” and “facing evil,” and one overarching metaphor, “walking children through a minefield.” The professionals felt that they lacked the means necessary to explore child adversity, that they were apprehensive of worsening the child’s situ…

La validación del clima de justicia y de la justicia entre compañeros en un entorno real de trabajo

2016

Abstract In this study we tested the validity of justice climate and peer justice, measured as second-order constructs, in a real work setting. First, we investigated the appropriateness of aggregating first-order facets of justice climate and peer justice to work-unit level of analysis. Second, we examined the construct validity of justice climate and peer justice as two different factor structures. Third, we tested the hierarchical structure of justice climate and peer justice as second-order factors. Finally, we examined the predictive validity of second-order factors justice climate and peer justice within a nomological network composed of reciprocity with the supervisor and reciprocity…

Problemática laboral de los socios trabajadores de las empresas de Economía Social: ¿socios o trabajadores?

1999

Co-operatives and labour societies are the most important organisations within the framework of Social Economy. The establishment of these societies, which create employment in the private sector with a democratic philosophy based on mutual help, has been recently boosted thanks to the support of public power. Their growing importance can be explained by three factors: the Employment Policy, the Social Policy and the productive decentralisation. As far as labour is concerned, these societies offer the following advantages: intensive use of labour, high rate of stability in employment, high levels of productivity, training and surplus re-inversion, lower rate of inflation, fewer conflicts th…

2019

The aim of this study was to systematically review lay health worker (LHW)–led self-management interventions for adults with long-term conditions to see how the interventions have been implemented and to compose a synthesis of research findings, taking into consideration the intervention components that have been applied. We conducted systematic searches for articles published between January 2010 and December 2015 in five databases: Cochrane, MEDLINE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Web of Science. Forty original studies were found that met the inclusion criteria: self-management with diabetes ( n = 29), cardiovascular diseases ( n = 8), and those at risk of cardiovascular diseases ( n = 3). Sustainable Forest Operations (SFO): A new paradigm in a changing world and climate

2018

The effective implementation of sustainable forest management depends largely on carrying out forest operations in a sustainable manner. Climate change, as well as the increasing demand for forest products, requires a re-thinking of forest operations in terms of sustainability. In this context, it is important to understand the major driving factors for the future development of forest operations that promote economic, environmental and social well-being. The main objective of this paper is to identify important issues concerning forest operations and to propose a new paradigm towards sustainability in a changing climate, work and environmental conditions. Previously developed concepts of f…
