A collaborative writing approach to wikis: Design, implementation, and evaluation

2011

Published version of an article from the journal:Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology. Also available from the publisher: http://iisit.org/Vol8/IISITv8p431-449Hadjerrouit224.pdf Wikis provide teachers with potentially significant opportunities for creating socially engaged tasks that require active student participation and collaboration. The Websites of the Contrade

2017

This chapter presents and analyses the outgoing and incoming links of the contrade’s websites as a preface to the interpretative analysis of the following two chapters. The analysis suggests that the contrade inhabit , on the World Wide Web , places that create intimacy. This chapter proposes that the contrade appropriate and use new technologies as part of their processes of community building . They attempt to present themselves to various outsiders in a way that, on the surface, is uniform, but which, at a deeper level, is fragmented.

A thread through challenging questions

2015

In the pages which follow I shall try to present a network relating some challenging different problems and questions; questions and problems which in different forms have been discussed with Enric along the years. The thread, of course, is constructed by me and now, and is based on my memory, choices and preferences. For these reasons I am not sure that Enric will totally agree with the particular way in which I have intertwined the different elements composing the thread as well as the pieces it connects. However I presume that this thread - also in the specific subjective form as it appears - will show, anyway, some elements of Enric’s activity and the way in which we have interacted alo…

Published version of a chapter in the book: Online Communities and Social Computing. Also available from the publisher at http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/978-3-642-02774-1_26 This paper discusses about contemporary literature on computer-mediated metacommunication and observes the phenomenon in two online communities. The results contribute by identifying six general-level patterns of how metacommunication refers to primary communication in online communities. A task-oriented, user-administrated, community (Wikipedia in Finnish) involved a remarkable number of specialized metacommunication genres. In a centrally moderated discussion-oriented community (Patientslikeme), metacommunication was inter…

2018

Today, when we are surrounded by intelligent digital devices – computers, tablets and mobile phones, we expect communication with these devices in a natural language. Moreover, such communication needs to be in our native language. This keynote will focus on language resources and tools that facilitate use of languages of three Baltic countries – Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian -in digital means (computers, tablets, mobile phones), allow to minimize language barriers, facilitate social inclusion, and support more natural human-computer in…

More and more people around the world choose to learn Chinese as a foreign language. However, due to its specifics, people often encounter difficulties in learning it. As a result of technological development, there are a number of useful tools that can improve the learning process, including various learning mobile applications (apps). Considering the huge amount of language learning applications and the lack of a unified evaluation system, it is possible to get lost in the options offered. The purpose of this chapter was to create criteria for evaluating Chinese language learning mobile apps that would help users with finding effective apps for learning Chinese as a foreign language.
