Organizational Media Affordances : Operationalization and Associations with Media Use

The concept of affordances has been increasingly applied to the study of information and communication technologies (ICTs) in organizational contexts. However, almost no research operationalizes affordances, limiting comparisons and programmatic research. This article briefly reviews conceptualizations and possibilities of affordances in general and for media, then introduces the concept of organizational media affordances as organizational resources. This essay examines the way Marina Warner's radio play They Make a Desert and Call it Peace (2014) and its fictional reworking of contemporary news such as the Bloody Sunday report and the investigation of the Gaza Flotilla Raid of 30 May 2010. After a presentation of the development of radio plays in England, the essay shows what interest they have generated among feminist writers and how Warner uses the voice of women in her play, which also serves as a rewriting of the biblical story of Salome, to question the transmission of the memory of traumatic events such as the Bloody Sunday. Among the factors involved in the development of individual personalities, the space, and especially home, is certainly the most significant one. The destabilization of the concept of home as a nest, and the consequent sense of belonging to it, find in the texts of migrant writers a new centrality, telling about others perspectives and imaginary with respect to the dominant one. Often forced to confine themselves in enclaves that exclude them from the territory of the natives, immigrants are driven to transform these spaces into exclusive places of their supportive diversity.

À cette fin, les données récoltées sur des étudiants en première année de licence de trois filières permettent de contrôler un ensemble de facteurs relatifs aux caractéristiques socio-démographiques et scolaires des étudiants.
