Proton beam written hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ) nanostructures for Nickel electroplating
2009
Abstract Hydrogen silsesquioxane (HSQ) behaves as a negative resist under MeV proton beam exposure. HSQ is a high-resolution resist suitable for production of tall ( 1.5 μ m ) high-aspect-ratio nanostructures with dimensions down to 22 nm. High-aspect-ratio HSQ structures are required in many applications, e.g. nanofluidics, biomedical research, etc. Since P-beam writing is a direct and hence slow process, it is beneficiary to fabricate a reverse image of the patterns in a metallic stamp, e.g. by Ni electroplating. The Ni stamp can then be used to produce multiple copies of the same pattern. In this study we investigate the possibility to produce Ni stamps from p-beam written HSQ samples. H…
“It Is Not the Robot Who Learns, It Is Me.” Treating Severe Dysgraphia Using Child–Robot Interaction
2021
Writing disorders are frequent and impairing. However, social robots may help to improve children's motivation and to propose enjoyable and tailored activities. Here, we have used the Co-writer scenario in which a child is asked to teach a robot how to write via demonstration on a tablet, combined with a series of games we developed to train specifically pressure, tilt, speed, and letter liaison controls. This setup was proposed to a 10-year-old boy with a complex neurodevelopmental disorder combining phonological disorder, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, dyslexia, and developmental coordination disorder with severe dysgraphia. Writing impairments were severe and limited his parti…
Democratic Dialogue and Development: An Intellectual Obituary of Björn Gustavsen
2018
Abstract Bjorn Gustavsen, with an original professional background as a lawyer and judge in his native Norway, had a formative role in organisational development processes in Norway, Sweden, Scandinavia and the European Union over four decades. Following in the tradition of Norwegian working life research by Trist and Thorsrud, he provided the conceptual framework and practical case studies which have driven major national and international programmes. He learned from different experience of organisational change in, for example, the USA and Japan, but he identified a distinctive way forward for the European Union, where he acted as a senior adviser. In contrast to conventional Taylorist to…
“Once an entrepreneur, always an entrepreneur” : positioning analysis of written narratives
2021
PurposeThe negative stereotypes concerning late-career workers are found to prevail and lead to negative circulation of narratives and actions between individuals and societies. Using the context of late-career entrepreneurs, the paper aims to find an alternative and a more positive narrative concerning late-career work by focusing on entrepreneurs and the narrative positioning related to them.Design/methodology/approachThe authors used a narrative-positioning analysis, cycling through three levels of analysis and then returning to level two, in order to study our sample of seven narratives written by Finnish late-career entrepreneurs. The authors present in detail one story-telling narrati…
“Le voci dell’Africa nelle lettere italiane”
2007
By referring to the postcolonial and diaspora studies, the essay analyzes the rise of a multicultural literature in Italy where Africa's literary voices contribute to a transformation of the national canon, opening it up to the contemporary notion of a transnational literature that crosses languages, territories and cultures.
Language as an “Indispensable Tool and Organ” of Reason: Intuition, Concept and Word in Schopenhauer
2020
On the first sight, Schopenhauer’s theory of language seems to be a rather simple instrumental one: Language is a means to convey information to others by sensual, vocal or written signs. However, Schopenhauer also argues that the real empirical object is the basis of a concept, which is abstracted from the former leaving out most of its properties and keeping the “essential” ones. In this paper, it is shown that Schopenhauer’s view on language cannot be reduced to an instrumental theory of language. Such a reduction would be really surprising in view of Schopenhauer’s style of writing and his critique of language.
Tradition and rewrite: "El maestro de danzar", from Lope to Calderón
2018
Solution of the Lindblad equation in Kraus representation
2006
The so-called Lindblad equation, a typical master equation describing the dissipative quantum dynamics, is shown to be solvable for finite-level systems in a compact form without resort to writing it down as a set of equations among matrix elements. The solution is then naturally given in an operator form, known as the Kraus representation. Following a few simple examples, the general applicability of the method is clarified.
Development of a MeV ion beam lithography system in Jyväskylä
2007
A lithographic facility for writing patterns with ion beams from cyclotron beams is under development for the Jyväskylä cyclotron. Instead of focusing and deflecting the beam with electrostatic and magnetic fields a different approach is used. Here a small rectangular beam spot is defined by the shadow of a computer-controlled variable aperture in close proximity to the sample. This allows parallel exposure of rectangular pattern elements of 5–500 μm side with protons up to 6 MeV and heavy ions (20Ne, 85Kr) up to few 100 MeV. Here we present a short overview of the system under construction and development of the aperture design, which is a critical aspect for all ion beam lithography syste…
