The influence of electrostimulation on mechanical and morphological characteristics of the triceps surae.

The present study assessed the effects of training using electrostimulation of muscle (EMS) on the torque-angular velocity and torque-angle relationships, and the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the triceps surae. Twelve physical education students, divided into two groups (6 controls, 6 experimental), participated in the experiment. The EMS sessions were undertaken using a 'Complex-type' stimulator. Flexible elastomer electrodes were used. The current used discharged pulses lasting for 200 microseconds at a frequency of 70 Hz. The durations of contraction and rest were 5 and 15 s, respectively. Purpose: To report the use of parallel grafts to extend the proximal landing zone for stentgraft repair of aortic transection involving an aberrant right subclavian artery (ARSA). Case Report: A 28-year-old patient was referred for treatment of traumatic aortic transection with contained rupture at the level of an ARSA. Immediate thoracic endovascular aortic repair (TEVAR) was planned because of hemodynamic instability. To achieve rapid sealing and maintain perfusion to both subclavian arteries, a chimney stent to the left subclavian artery (LSA) and a periscope stent-graft to the ARSA were deployed successfully. Deciphering the internal structure of prehistoric artefacts can provide spectacular insights that might help us understand the people who made them. In order to preserve the integrity of these relics of past civilisations, it is desirable to make such investigations using non-destructive techniques. Recent decades have witnessed a growth in the X-ray computed tomography (CT) applications in the study of cultural heritage objects. This paper presents and discusses tomographic investigations of two Cucuteni ceramic statuettes discovered in Romania. The study was made with a CT device specially designed for archaeometric applications.

25 patients who had undergone a modified Lange repair were examined postoperatively after about four years, both clinically and by CT arthrography. Ventral redislocation was no longer seen postoperatively. As regards residual ventral instability, there was agreement between CT arthrography and the clinical findings in 20/25 patients (90%). Die erweiterte Hemihepatektomie links mit der Resektion der Lebersegmente 1, 2, 3, 4 a/b, 5 und 8 ist eine auch weiterhin sehr herausfordernde Leberresektion, deren Indikation bei gut selektionierten Patienten die Chance auf eine kurative Resektion bei primaren oder sekundaren Lebertumoren mit komplizierter Lage bieten kann. Die Morbiditat und Mortalitat ist gegenuber den nicht erweiterten Leberresektionen erhoht.
