Spin-polarization effects for electrons passing through thin iron and cobalt films

Abstract Spin-dependent effects of the inelastic mean free path (IMFP) are evident for low-energy electrons passing through magnetized ferromagnetic films caused by a different attenuation within the layer. Values of IMFP for both spin components were determined for ultrathin iron and cobalt layers on W(1 1 0) by means of spin-resolving photoelectron spectroscopy.
Investigation of a novel material for magnetoelectronics: Co2Cr0.6Fe0.4Al

Heusler compounds are promising candidates for future spintronics device applications. The electronic and magnetic properties of Co2Cr0.6Fe0.4Al, an electron-doped derivative of Co2CrAl, are investigated using circularly polarized synchrotron radiation and photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM). Element specific imaging reveals needle shaped Cr rich phases in a homogeneous bulk of the Heusler compound. The ferromagnetic domain structure is investigated on an element-resolved basis using x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) contrast in PEEM. Spin crossover behaviour in the iron(II)-2,2-dipyridilamine system: Synthesis, X-ray structure and magnetic studies

Abstract The monomeric compounds [Fe(dpa)2(X)2] · solv [X = NCS−(solv = 0.5H2O) (1), N ( CN ) 2 - (2) and dpa = 2,2-dipyridilamine] have been synthesised and characterised. They crystallise in the P21/n and in the Cc monoclinic systems, respectively. Four of six nitrogen atoms coordinated to the Fe(II) ions belong to two dpa ligands which lie in cis conformation. The remaining positions are occupied by two nitrogen atoms of the pseudo-halide ligands. The magnetic susceptibility measurements at ambient pressure have revealed that compound 1 exhibits an incomplete spin crossover behaviour (T1/2 ≈ 88 K), whereas compound 2 remains in the high-spin configuration. Abstract The physico-chemical properties of Bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine (BEEA) plus octanoic acid (OA) mixtures have been investigated by IR, SAXS, WAXS, viscosimetry, and AC complex impedance spectroscopy in the whole composition range. Mainly driven by proton transfer from the acidic OA to the basic BEEA, the formation of stoichiometrically well-defined adducts takes place in the mixtures. This causes the slowing down of molecular dynamics and the increase in charge carrier number density. Interestingly, while the pure components possess no significant conductivity (about 10−12 S cm−1 at 25 °C), their mixtures show a composition-dependent enhanced conductivity (up to about 10−5 S cm−1), i.e., …

In this work, we report for the first time on a comprehensive study of poly(2,3,5,6-tetrafluoroaniline) (PTFANI). Contrary to the nonfluorinated polyaniline (PANI) or its analogues bearing one fluorine atom, PTFANI is a poorly conductive material. We present a comprehensive study of the electrosynthesized PTFANI from its monomer in an acidic aqueous medium. PTFANI was fully characterized by a potential-pH diagram, spectroelectrochemistry, and electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance (EQCM) measurements, as well as by a morphological study. Dental cone beam computed tomography (CBCT), also known as digital volumetric tomography was developed in the late 1990s and is now increasingly available in clinical practice. Auto calibration of a cone-beam-CT

Purpose: This paper introduces a novel autocalibration method for cone-beam-CTs (CBCT) or flat-panel CTs, assuming a perfect rotation. The method is based on ellipse-fitting. Autocalibration refers to accurate recovery of the geometric alignment of a CBCT device from projection images alone, without any manual measurements. Abstract Hemocyanins are multisubunit respiratory proteins found in many invertebrates. They bind oxygen highly cooperatively. However, not much is known about the structural basis of this behavior. We studied the influence of the physiological allosteric effectorl-lactate on the oxygenated quaternary structure of the 2×6-meric hemocyanin from the lobster Homarus americanus employing small angle x-ray scattering (SAXS). Contrast perception in digitized panoramic radiographs compared with their film-based origin

Abstract Objectives. We sought to compare the visual image quality of film-based and digitized panoramic radiographs through use of a hole-containing test wedge. Study Design. An aluminum wedge containing 100 cells, of which 90 were given shallow holes, was exposed in the film-based Orthophos CD panoramic unit. Two radiographs subjectively exhibiting optimum contrast were selected. Films were digitized with a charge-coupled device flatbed scanner at 300 dpi. Films and digitized images were rated cellwise by 2 similar groups of 50 observers each with respect to spot perception. Results. Modeling X-ray emission from stellar coronae

By extrapolating from observationally derived surface magnetograms of low-mass stars we construct models of their coronal magnetic fields and compare the 3D field geometry with axial multipoles. AB Dor, which has a radiative core, has a very complex field, whereas V374 Peg, which is completely convective, has a simple dipolar field. We calculate global X-ray emission measures assuming that the plasma trapped along the coronal loops is in hydrostatic equilibrium and compare the differences between assuming isothermal coronae, or by considering a loop temperature profiles.
