Physical activity intention and attendance behaviour in Finnish youth with cerebral palsy – results from a physical activity intervention: an applica…

2021

Physical activity is associated with better health in individuals with cerebral palsy (CP). Numerous physical activity interventions have been designed to promote physical activity among youth with CP. No previous studies have explored the factors contributing to the intention to participate and predicting attendance behaviour for these interventions. Using theory of planned behaviour (TPB), this study explored the prediction of physical activity intention and attendance behaviour in a physical activity intervention aiming to promote physical activity in a sample of young individuals with CP. Males with CP aged 9–21 years were asked to complete measures of attitude, subjective norms, percei…

Asiakaskeskeiseen liiketoimintaan kuuluu olennaisena osana CRM-käsite (Customer Relationship Management), jolle on kirjallisuudessa esitetty useita erilaisia määritelmiä. Tässä tutkielmassa CRM:ää käsitellään yrityksen kokonaisvaltaisena strategiana harjoittaa liiketoimintaa. CRM-liiketoimintastrategiaan sisältyy olennaisena osana myös teknologiset …

An automated and self-cleaning nano liquid chromatography mass spectrometry platform featuring an open tubular multi-hole crystal fiber solid phase e…

2017

An open tubular (OT) sample preparation/separation platform was developed. A multi-channel polymer layer open tubular (mPLOT) solid phase extraction (SPE) column was prepared by wall-coating the 126 channels (8μm inner diameter (ID) each) of a crystal fiber capillary with an organic polymer, namely poly(styrene-co-octadecene-co-divinylbenzene) (PS-OD-DVB). The mPLOT SPE was coupled on-line with a 10μm×2m poly(styrene-co-divinylbenzene) (PS-DVB) OT liquid chromatography column with nanospray mass spectrometry (OTLC-MS). Compared to using monolithic/particle-packed SPEs, mPLOT-SPE-OTLC allowed both fast loading and sufficient refocusing on the OT analytical column of small model compounds (su…

High anti-JCPyV serum titers coincide with high CSF cell counts in RRMS patients

2020

Background: Progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML) can in rare cases occur in natalizumab-treated patients with high serum anti-JCPyV antibodies, hypothetically due to excessive blockade of immune cell migration. Objective: Immune cell recruitment to the central nervous system (CNS) was assessed in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) patients stratified by low versus high anti-JCPyV antibody titers as indicator for PML risk. Methods: Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cell counts of 145 RRMS patients were quantified by flow cytometry. Generalized linear models were employed to assess influence of age, sex, disease duration, Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), clinical/radiol…

The demixing behavior of 20 representatives of the system oligo(dimethylsiloxane)/oligo(propylene glycol) (ODMS/OPG)1 is investigated at pressures up to 1 500 bar. The degrees of oligomerization range from 2 to 5 for the first and from 1 to 57, 6 for the second component. The experimental results are compared with those for the previously studied system oligoisobutene/oligo(propylene glycol) (OIB/OPG). In both cases the observed upper critical temperatures Tc increase with the number of monomeric units of the less polar component, whereas they run through a minimum when the number of monomeric units of the glycol is raised. For the present system the Tc values are found to be considerably h…

Convective electrodiffusion processes through graft-modified charged porous membranes

1999

Convective diffusion and electrophoresis across a charged porous membrane showing variable permeability properties were studied. The membrane used was prepared by grafting poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) onto a porous polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) membrane. The degree of grafting was selected to be relatively low, 18 wt%, to compromise between the ion selectivity and hydraulic permeability of the membrane. The possible electric field induced effects on the membrane permselectivity were examined after the membrane had been characterized by convective diffusion and concentration cell potential measurements. The measured electrophoresis data, however, could be modelled using the extended Teorell–Mey…

Scalable heterogeneous synthesis of metallic nanoparticles and aggregates with polyvinyl alcohol

2009

Here we report on a new route to synthesize colloidal silver and gold nanoparticles, potentially scalable for massive nanoparticle-production. This method is based on the microwave-assisted heterogeneous reduction of the metal salts with polyvinylalcohol. The reaction is carried out in alcohols, which are non-solvents for polyvinylalcohol. Nanoparticles can be very easily separated by filtration. The reaction kinetics are extremely fast. Size-controlled formation of nanoparticle agglomerates is accomplished with a seed-mediated synthesis of nanoparticles upon MW exposure.
