Mechanism and cis/trans Selectivity of Vinylogous Nazarov-type [6π] Photocyclizations

2017

Vinylogous Nazarov-type cyclizations yield seven-membered rings from butadienyl vinyl ketones via a photochemical [6π] photocyclization followed by subsequent isomerization steps. The mechanism of this recently developed method was investigated using unrestricted DFT, SF-TDDFT, and CASSCF/NEVPT2 calculations, suggesting three different pathways that lead either to pure trans, pure cis, or mixed cis/trans configured products. Singlet biradicals or zwitterions occur as intermediates. The computational results are supported by deuterium-labeling experiments.

Towards the synthesis of substituted porphyrins by a pyridyl group bearing a reactive functionality

Pyridyl-substituted porphyrins bearing a reactive functionality were prepared via Suzuki cross-coupling reactions and resulted in very good yields. These compounds are precursors of new porphyrin architectures able to coordinate two metals: one in the porphyrin core and the second around the pyridyl moiety. During the coupling reactions, a higher reactivity of a chloro picolyl group was evidenced compared to a bromo function on the same reacting molecule.

Asymmetric Synthesis of Spiro β-Lactamsviaa Squaramide- Catalyzed Sulfa-Michael Addition/Desymmetrization Protocol

An efficient asymmetric synthesis of spirocyclohexenone β-lactams bearing three contiguous stereocenters has been achieved in moderate to good yields and high stereoselectivities. The protocol involves the combination of a squaramide-catalyzed sulfa-Michael addition under desymmetrization via a dynamic kinetic resolution of racemic 2,5-cyclohexadienones.

Halogen bonds in 2,5-dihalopyridine-copper(II) chloride complexes

Ten coordination complexes obtained through a facile reaction between 2,5-dihalopyridines and copper(II) chloride (CuCl2) are characterized using single crystal X-ray diffraction. Two series of dihalopyridine complexes based on 2-chloro-5-X-pyridine and 2-bromo-5-X-pyridine (X = F, Cl, Br and I) were prepared to analyze the C–X2/X5⋯Cl–Cu halogen bonds (XB). The influence of X2- and X5-substituents on the respective interactions was examined by comparing them to the X2/X3⋯Cl–Cu XBs found in mono-substituted halopyridine complexes, (n-X-pyridine)2·CuCl2 (n = 2, 3 and X = Cl, Br and I). Switching of Slow Magnetic Relaxation Dynamics in Mononuclear Dysprosium(III) Compounds with Charge Density

The symmetry around a Dy ion is recognized to be a crucial parameter dictating magnetization relaxation dynamics. We prepared two similar square-antiprismatic complexes, [Dy(LOMe)2(H2O)2](PF6) (1) and Dy(LOMe)2(NO3) (2), where LOMe = [CpCo{P(O)(O(CH3))2}3], including either two neutral water molecules (1) or an anionic nitrate ligand (2). We demonstrated that in this case relaxation dynamics is dramatically affected by the introduction of a charged ligand, stabilizing the easy axis of magnetization along the nitrate direction. Cis- and trans molybdenum oxo complexes of a prochiral tetradentate aminophenolate ligand : Synthesis, characterization and oxotransfer activity

Abstract Reaction of [MoO2Cl2(dmso)2] with the tetradentate O2N2 donor ligand papy [H2papy = N-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N-(2-picolyl)glycine] leads to formation of the dioxomolybdenum(VI) complex [MoO2(papy)] (1) as a mixture of cis and trans isomers. Recrystallization from methanol furnishes solid cis-1, whereas the use of a dichloromethane-hexane mixture allows for the isolation of the trans-1 isomer. Stepwise Construction of Heterobimetallic Cages by an Extended Molecular Library Approach.

Two novel heterobimetallic complexes, a trigonal-bipyramidal and a cubic one, have been synthesized and characterized using the same C3-symmetric metalloligand, prepared by a simple subcomponent self-assembly strategy. The electrochemical synthesis of pyrazolidine-3,5-diones and benzoxazoles by N-N bond formation and C,O linkage, respectively, represents an easy access to medicinally relevant structures. Electrochemistry as a key technology ensures a safe and sustainable approach. We gained insights in the mechanism of these reactions by combining cyclovoltammetric and synthetic studies. The complex [Cp*2Mo2O5] (Cp* = η5-C5Me5) and its electrochemical reduction products in acetic acid/acetate-buffered (pH = 4.0) water/methanol solutions were investigated by combined electrochemical (EC) flowcell and on-line electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Mono-, di-, tri-, and tetranuclear organometallic molybdenum oxides were identified in the starting solution.
