Comparison of 24-h control of gastric acidity by three different dosages of pantoprazole in patients with duodenal ulcer
1998
Background It is now clear that the extent to which gastric acid secretion must be suppressed varies with the clinical condition being treated. Aim To assess the 24-h control of gastric acidity and the individual response variability of three different doses of pantoprazole. Methods Sixty-four duodenal ulcer patients were recruited for this prospective, randomized, multicentre, double-blind, parallel-group study. They were subdivided into three well-matched groups treated with 20 mg o.m., 40 mg o.m. and 40 mg b.d. of pantoprazole, respectively. Endoscopy and intragastric pH monitoring were performed in each patient before and after 14 days of treatment. Results Fifty-five patients were elig…

The Gelling Ability of Some Diimidazolium Salts: Effect of Isomeric Substitution of the Cation and Anion
2013
The gelling ability of some geminal imidazolium salts was investigated both in organic solvents and in water solution. Organic salts differing either in the cation or anion structure were taken into account. In particular, the effects on the gel-phase formation of isomeric substitution on the cation or anion as well as of the use of mono- or dianions were evaluated. As far as the cation structure is concerned, isomeric cations, such as 3,3′-di-n-octyl-1,1′-(1,4-phenylenedimethylene)diimidazolium and 3,3′-di-n-octyl-1,1′-(1,3-phenylenedimethylene)diimidazolium, were used. On the other hand, in addition to the bromide anion, isomeric dianions, such as the 1,5- and 2,6-naphthalenedisulfonate a…
The diversity of GABAA receptors. Pharmacological and electrophysiological properties of GABAA channel subtypes.
1998
The amino acid gamma-aminobutyric-acid (GABA) prevails in the CNS as an inhibitory neurotransmitter that mediates most of its effects through fast GABA-gated Cl(-)-channels (GABAAR). Molecular biology uncovered the complex subunit architecture of this receptor channel, in which a pentameric assembly derived from five of at least 17 mammalian subunits, grouped in the six classes alpha, beta, gamma, delta, sigma and epsilon, permits a vast number of putative receptor isoforms. The subunit composition of a particular receptor determines the specific effects of allosterical modulators of the GABAARs like benzodiazepines (BZs), barbiturates, steroids, some convulsants, polyvalent cations, and et…
Efficient Expression and Crystallization System of Cancer-Associated Carbonic Anhydrase Isoform IX.
2015
Human carbonic anhydrase IX (CA IX) is overexpressed in a number of solid tumors and is considered to be a marker for cellular hypoxia that it is not produced in most normal tissues. CA IX contributes to the acidification of the extracellular matrix, which, in turn, favors tumor growth and metastasis. Therefore, CA IX is considered to be a promising anti-cancer drug target. However, the ability to specifically target CA IX is challenging due to the fact that the human genome encodes 15 different carbonic anhydrase isoforms that have a high degree of homology. Furthermore, structure-based drug design of CA IX inhibitors so far has been largely unsuccessful due to technical difficulties regar…
Identification and cloning of odorant binding proteins from the scarab beetle Phyllopertha diversa.
1999
Abstract Wehave identified, cloned, and characterized two odorant binding proteins from the pale brown chafer, Phyllopertha diversa. One of the proteins (OBP1, 116 amino acids long) showed high amino acid identity (>90%) to two previously identified PBPs from scarab beetles. The second protein (OBP2) showed limited sequence similarity to lepidopteran and dipteran OBPs, but contained only 133 amino acids. Both proteins showed the occurrence of six highly conserved cysteines; electrospray mass spectral data suggested they are all bound in three disulfide bonds. During purification, OBP2 separated into several isoforms; N-terminal amino acid sequencing and electrospray ionization mass spectrom…

Ultrasonic and Volumetric Properties of 1-Ethyl-3-methylimidazolium Trifluoromethanesulfonate Ionic Liquid with 2-Propanol or Tetrahydrofuran at Seve…
2011
Densities and speeds of sound of 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate mixtures with 2-propanol and tetrahydrofuran (THF), as well as of the pure components, have been measured over the whole range of compositions at T = (278.15 to 328.15) K and P = (101 ± 2) kPa. From these experimental data, the excess molar volume, excess speed of sound, and excess isentropic compressibility have been calculated and fitted to an extended version of the Redlich–Kister equation, which takes into account the dependence on composition and temperature simultaneously. The Prigogine–Flory–Patterson theory has also been used to explain the behavior of these systems.
Bis(imidazolium) salts derived from amino acids as receptors and transport agents for chloride anions
2015
The binding properties of bis(imidazolium) hosts 1a–c derived from amino acids towards different anions have been studied by 1H NMR titration experiments in 95 : 05 CD3CN : H2O at 303 K, ESI-MS and theoretical calculations. Among this family, the salt 1c showed a strong and high selectivity for chloride anions. Transmembrane chloride transport activity has also been studied for the three bis(imidazolium) based transporters in POPC liposome models, and compound 1a was identified as an active chloride/nitrate exchanger.
Paramagnetic ionic liquids as “liquid fixed-bed” catalysts in flow application
2011
Abstract The structural diversity of Ionic Liquids is well-known and widely used to generate solvents designed for special applications. Magnetic as well as catalytic properties have been described previously. To our best knowledge we report the first time about the combination of both, the magnetic and catalytic behaviour of imidazole based magnetic ionic liquids was used to establish a so-called liquid fixed-bed (LFB) in a micro-/meso-structured reactor. As proof of priciple the esterification of Ac 2 O with cyclohexanol was investigated by bubbling generated regular microdroplets of the reaction mixture through the magnetically fixed ionic liquid catalyst. With residence times of approx.…
