The different kinetic and mechanistic behaviors of molybdenum and tungsten in the reduction of tris(benzene-1,2-dithiolato)Mo(VI) and W(VI) complexes…
2011
The mono-electronic reduction of tris(benzene-1,2-dithiolato)Mo(VI) and W(VI) complexes (ML3: M = Mo, W; L = S2C6H2−4, S2C6H3CH2−3) to their anionic forms ML−3 by L(+)-ascorbic acid (H2A) has been studied in tetrahydrofurane (THF):water and THF:methanol by means of diode-array, stopped-flow, and mass spectrometry–electrospray ionization (MS-ESI) spectroscopy. The kinetic study in methanol demonstrates that the reaction is first order in each reactant, the electron transfer being rate limiting. This fact was assessed by the absence of a primary saline effect and by the correlation observed between the activation free enthalpy (ΔG≠) and the reduction potentials measured by cyclic voltamperome…
An Efficient Synthesis of Rubin’s Aldehyde and its Precursor 1,3,5-Tribromo-2,4,6-tris(dichloromethyl)benzene
2011
2,4,6-Tribromobenzene-1,3,5-tricarboxaldehyde (4) can be efficiently prepared in two reaction steps from 1,3,5-tribromobenzene. The intermediate 1,3,5-tribromo-2,4,6-tris(dichloromethyl)benzene (3) crystallizes from petroleum ether in its C3h structure. However, in CDCl3 solution it exists at room temperature in two isomeric forms: 3a (C3h) and 3b (Cs) (1:1.15).The intramolecular Br・・・Cldistances are much smaller than the sum of the van der Waals radii. Therefore, the exocyclic C-C bonds show a hindered rotation.
Dodecyloxy-substituted 2,4,6-tris(styryl)pyridines
2008
(E,E,E)-2,4,6-Tris(styryl)pyridines 2a-c with 3, 6 or 9 dodecyloxy substituents were prepared by the highly stereoselective condensation reaction of collidine (8) and the corresponding phenyl-(1-phenyl-methylidene)amines 7a-c (Siegrist reaction). In contrast to the corresponding compounds with a benzene or a 1,3,5-triazine core, 2a-c do not show any hints for the formation of thermotropic liquid crystals. The major application of such star-shaped systems is in the field of nonlinear optics.
The preparation of (14C) and [3H] labelled benzene oxide
1977
Benzene oxide -[U-14C] was prepared from benzene -(U-14C) by modifications of methods described for the inactive compound. Benzene oxide-[3.6–3H] was prepared by decomposition of 3.6-bis-trimethylsilyl-1,4-cyclohexadiene with tritiated water. bromination of the 1,4-cyclohexadiene-[3,6-3H] so obtained. epoxidation and dehydrobromination. With the latter method benzene oxide-[3,6–3H] can be prepared at a much lower cost and higher specific activity than benzene oxide-[U-14C].
Actinic Radiation and Photolysis Processes in the Lower Troposphere: Effect of Clouds and Aerosols
2002
Within the German Tropospheric Research Program (TFS) a series of projects were performed focussing on aspects of radiation transfer and the effects of UV-radiation on air chemistry. The individual projects covered laboratory investigations, instrument development for photolysis processes as well as field studies of actinic radiation and comparison to model calculations. One and three-dimensional models were tested against field campaign data. The results confirm the improvement of measurement technology achieved through deployment of new techniques like spectroradiometry that offer a wider range of investigations than was previously attainable using chemical actinometry or fixed wavelength…
Sensitivity of shortwave radiative fluxes to the vertical distribution of aerosol single scattering albedo in the presence of a desert dust layer
2010
Abstract The aim of this work is to quantify the sensitivity of shortwave radiative fluxes to changes in the vertical distribution of aerosol absorption, taken into account through the aerosol Single Scattering Albedo (SSA). The case study represents a real atmospheric situation with a desert dust layer (DDL) in the mid troposphere over an urban Boundary Layer (BL) observed at Rome on 20 June 2007. A moderately high aerosol optical depth (AOD), 0.292 at 550 nm, and low Angstrom exponent of 0.30 were measured. The observed case was reconstructed with a radiative transfer model, in which the SSA of the boundary layer aerosols was varied from that of a highly absorbing aerosol type (urban) to …
Correction for aerosol effects on satellite sea surface temperature measurements
1998
Estimation of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) from split- window algorithms for NOAA-AVHRR data can be determined with rms values of 0.7 K on a global basis. However, this figure is not compatible with the stringent accuracy of 0.3 K required by climate studies. Among the different sources of errors, the presence of tropospheric aerosols in the satellite field of view prevents the retrieval of accurate satellite SSTs. Still, the effect of aerosols on temperature measurements derived from remote sensing techniques has been traditionally overlooked. Very few studies have addressed the problem of giving split-window algorithms which incorporate aerosol correction, although retrieving algorithms …
Fiducia e nuove cittadinanze
2023
The article discusses the role of the experience of trust in the foundation of a conscious and inclusive citizenship, distinguishing between trust as reliabilty of the world and personal trust as an expression of freedom and creativity.
